Friedman on FAN590 this morning talking Marner/Leafs: “You want to talk about one that has gotten awkward, this has gotten awkward between everyone involved...Both sides are sitting there saying they’re surprised it has gotten to this point...The Maple Leafs are frustrated with Marner and his camp and I think Marner is frustrated with the Maple Leafs and that organization.” #Leafs - jimbro83
So hypothetical that I'm sure will turn into a heated debate: If you were guaranteed to get one, what would it be Panarin or Marner? I can see the camp that says Panarin because you would give up 0 assets to get him. However give me Marner all day. This team is still rebuilding, getting a guy who almost is and will probably be in his prime as long as our prospects is something I will gladly sign up for. I think overall Marner is a better player too.

I'd rather have Marner than Panarin if you are just comparing players without thinking of the cost
I think Kreider will get a similar contract as a UFA. It’s just what players of Hayes/Kreiders caliber go for these days. - rangerdanger94
It’s why I don’t get the uproar for the Hayes deal. Second line centers get 7 mill now, 2 years ago it was 5-6. In two years it’ll probably be 8-9.
By next year Kreider will be close to 8 a yr. Cap goes up, the salaries go up..it isn’t rocket science. Added to that, UFAs generally get a lil over paid anyway. This Hayes contract was par for the course to me 🤷🏻♂️

You're going to pay them both almost the same amount of money, except Marner you'll have to give up four first round picks for too. But you also get a lot more prime years out of Marner.

Problem is it would take the 4 x 1st scenario. - Tonybere
I still maintain if a team did sign someone to an offer sheet that a team thought about not matching, a trade would be worked out first. Probably cost us Chytil and/or Kravstov though
Darren Dreger says the Sabres still have interest in Vesey and that Alex Nylander's name is out there. He says he thinks Buffalo moves pick #31, and the two hosts agree that they will.

I wouldn’t bother, I’d just sacrifice the four firsts. No turning back on these kids now

Is Nylander officially a bust or still has hope? I’d do jimmy v for 31 in a heartbeat

I'd try to work out a trade first. I get what you are saying and I 100% believe someone like Marner will return way more value than those 4 1sts, but especially those last of the 4 we will need eventually for cheap roster players.
