I love what Colorado did last night. Getting the best dman in Byram gives them flexibility to trade Barrie for more pieces. Byram and Makar will be an unreal d pair for years. And getting Newhook at 16 is a great pick. They did well for a team already on the rise.

Sakic keeps hitting home run after home run. Newhook is more boom or bust due to playing in the BCHL but has speed to burn and could be a guy in a few years that we talk about should of went higher in the draft.

I'm super jealous of that Byram/Makar pairing, just love that tandem. They can move Barrie for more pieces to improve their roster. Newhook has an ideal skill set for today's NHL. Sakic knows what he's doing. They might become my second fave team.

I thought at pick 31 we were going to go with Johnson’s Sioux Falls teammate Bobby Brink. I saw Johnson’s name come up frequently as a prospect in that 28-39 range so I’m not shocked we took him.

He said he tried to trade, talked to some teams but the feeling no trades could be made. I'm still not sold on Johnson at 31, thought it was a bit of a reach with guys like Kaliyev, Lavoie, Vlasic and Robertson there. Some mocks had Johnson in the 40's.

I would have went with either Kaliyev or Lavoie at 31.
