it really does make you wonder if the Canucks are actively and aggressively shopping some forwards. Sven/Sutter/Motte/Hutton, they all have to be floated around by Benning. - Codes1087
I'm not holding my breath. I think it's to bring back the annual "so much training camp competition" hype. |

Canucks select Ethan Keppan 122nd overall
Ranked 72nd on Robinsons list - Codes1087
Didn't watch him, but he sounds like a solid pick.
stolen from hf:
He is a high-volume shooter, with many of his shots coming from in close, and in the slot, McKeen's Hockey 2019
His frame and willingness to physically engage made him an impressive forechecker as well, Hockeyprospect.com 2019
He has the hockey sense and playmaking ability to make him a dangerous player offensively, Future Considerations 2019

big kid, 6'2 and 212 lb left winger.
Kind of hope we start seeing some D drafted pretty soon. |

I like that they're sticking with BPA, the draft process of this group is one of the few things I can get behind. I just wish their roster management process was as logical. |

OHL Prospects
@BrockOtten
Ethan Keppen finally goes. Great pick by Vancouver. Thought he'd go earlier. Competitive, heavy winger who can finish, but was also near the top of primary assists 5 on 5 among draft eligible players. Will continue to grow as a player as part of a talented Flint team #NHLDraft
Brock watches a lot of OHL hockey. |

I've been mentally preparing for it since March. |

interesting side note
Francis Perron will require waivers to get to Utica. Could the Canucks be banking on this kid making the team out of camp? - Codes1087

Best case scenario - Canucks miss the playoffs this year (expected) and keep the pick
Then in 2021 - make the playoffs and Tampa end up with a pick between 16-31 - we still have Miller for 2 more years as a 28/29 year old (somewhat prime years) playing with Bo, Pearson, Boeser, EP during their prime years. Theres some good upside in that scenario.
BUT
Worse case - we make the playoffs next year and TBL gets our lottery pick in 2020 OR we miss the POs the next 2 years and TB get our lottery pick in 2021 - that sound right? - Brooks_Light
Sounds bang on except obviously Tampa can’t get our lottery pick in 2020 |

While this is true it is also the reason we should not be getting rid of 1st round pics. Speeding up a rebuild is just going to create more problems for the next guy coming in. This was a knee jerk reaction. - thundachunk

Truth. - VanHockeyGuy
but then wouldn't Benning haver traded 10th overall for a dman isnrtead of drafting a kid who's signed in Russia for 2 more years?
I think Benning really made this trade thinking it'll benefit the team short term and long-term.
Weisbrod was talking about how they're projecting the cap in the future years, they probably targeted guys like Zucker and Miller on purpose because they're locked up to reasonable cap hits for multiple years.
I think this was all by design, with both the short term and long term in mind. I really don't buy the lame duck GM argument. |
