Benning is talking to agents multiple times a week about his own players who happen to be representing UFA's this summer. You can only assume there is, like always,,, discussions with information being passed on to the players. It's no mystery how players sign big complicated contracts moments after the shopping spree opens July 1st. Everything was already agreed on verbally. - boonerbuck
The UFA window to talk will decide JB’s fate.
Some will be happy with that one way or the other. |

It only started a year ago. Rebuilds take time, and draft picks. Even Gillis didn’t trade 1sts while he was loading up for a cup run. - 1970vintage
He traded a 1st in the Ballard deal.

I like the player addition. He protects the puck well.... goes to the net, a 20+ goal scorer. Some people talk about his term being a negative. It's not at all. A top 6 player locked up for 4 years of his prime age(27-31) at a reasonable salary.
I hate seeing any 1st round pick being moved. I'm happy its lotto protected next season but a 3rd and a conditional 1st is too much to a team under the gun cap wise. I'm sure there are other GM's that could have done better on this deal.
I assume they are going to back up the Brinks truck for a top 4 D-man now... trade or signing. Prepare yourselves... |

Free agency should be a treat. - Marwood
This was all discussed before. We had to know ownership wants this club in a PO run for the 50th anniversary. Miller makes us a better team instantly but the cost is high.
Can't wait to see what's next.

UFA...Gardiner or Myers. I'd take Gardiner and pass on Myers.
Trade. Barrie. The Miller trade may be tied into Jake being traded and needing replacement. Tanev out, Barrie in.

I think the Barrie bus has left the depot & Greyhound is gone here in BC
Gardiner be my choice.
Less than zero i want Myers.
JB said he’s getting D so my Panarin hope is not happening. Too bad |

I agree on Panarin. They made their top 6 move via trade. I think free agency is the move for a D now.

Sign Gardiner.
Trade for Barrie (JV and Tanev)
Sign Ferland.
2 top 6 fwds - Miller and Ferland
3 top 4 D Barrie, Gardiner, Hughes (plus Edler resigned).
i'd be good with that. |

No defensemen at all. Plus a few draft +1 guys. Not overly impressed with this draft as a whole. |

So looking at the Subban deal, what’s worse, a 1st (non lottery) and a third, or 2 2nds?

Well Subban is a true cap dump at $9MM per. His game is dwindling fast. I wouldn’t pay one 2nd let alone two for him |
