Well Subban is a true cap dump at $9MM per. His game is dwindling fast. I wouldn’t pay one 2nd let alone two for him - CanuckDon
There are people who think just because Tampa needed cap space that JB overpaid for a bad contract. Not at all. He overpaid for a decent contract during the players best years. |

So looking at the Subban deal, what’s worse, a 1st (non lottery) and a third, or 2 2nds? - Shuswap Wap
You either think you are making the playoffs or you don't. Then that become relevant. Benning and Green feel they will make the playoffs for sure. So then they think must think they can put together a good enough team and Aquaman must also think so or he wouldn't agree to trade the first
Interesting note - the Gillis book often mentioned how he was "sure" Weber was coming to Vancouver but then Philly offer sheeted him and Nashville matched. So Gillis didn't get what he wanted and was fired. Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself (expect for our first becoming the next Pavel Bure!) |

Lol. Just because they need cap space doesn’t mean he has negative value. Canucks fans 😍 |

Are you saying JB believes that he is confident he is getting some star player?

I like the player addition. He protects the puck well.... goes to the net, a 20+ goal scorer. Some people talk about his term being a negative. It's not at all. A top 6 player locked up for 4 years of his prime age(27-31) at a reasonable salary.
I hate seeing any 1st round pick being moved. I'm happy its lotto protected next season but a 3rd and a conditional 1st is too much to a team under the gun cap wise. I'm sure there are other GM's that could have done better on this deal.
I assume they are going to back up the Brinks truck for a top 4 D-man now... trade or signing. Prepare yourselves... - boonerbuck

I think I'm more surprised by some fan reactions than the trade itself.
Marwood having a meltdown just like he used to ridicule others for and Donna being positive and rational??
Feels like i'm in the upside down.

I think he has sold FA on a scenario or there is no way he would be allowed to trade the first. FA is a deal maker - likes to make moves that others may not do - so in my opinion there has to be more or there is no way this happens.

I think NJD made out well with the Subban trade.
They've actually got the makings of a fairly interesting team this year.
I agree, JB overpaid for a decent contract.

I for sure think there is more to be done.
The Defense obviously requires a massive overhaul still.
I just don't know if he's confident or has a handshake deal free agent in mind yet, or will scramble July 1st when the madness begins. |

Doubt it, people only hate on overpaid players and draft busts, Miller shouldn’t fit in either category.
A lot of Oilers fans who hated the Hall trade trade actually like Adam Larsson |

I think Marwood will clam down when he sees miller beside Elias. I think that’s a good fit. Top line players cost assets and sadly all we have availabile is draft capital - CanuckDon
Take the BPA!
ugh, not a Russian though!
Make a trade for a top 6 forward!
Wait, don't trade assets though!

Negative value is a huge over statement, TB having cap issues absolutely means Benning shouldn’t have paid full value for him, unfortunately he did because he wanted him.
Make no mistake, there’s pressure from ownership to make the playoffs but it’s still an overpayment. All that said, if they miss next season, which is expected unless they have a huge upgrade on defense, they keep their 2020. Have another good draft and try to recoup a first for 2021. |

I get the sense that EP's performance last year emboldened management to push some chips in. |

For me the coaching seems to affect Miller. Miller was coached by AV in NY and I see Green having a lot of AV tendencies.
Ultimately I think this trade is seriously ballsy. I guess Benning needs to take his best shot and I hope it works out. He has some amazing strengths and these trade will be the ultimate determination on his overall capability to GM. I hope it works out. |

Agree, that imo put things in motion. If Pettersson can’t repeat, points fall off a bit, which isn’t out of the question, we could see some backlash. |

If Miller gets 15 goals by Christmas (which is possible with EP as a center or even Horvat of they click) then it is working out. Also Both Boeser and Miller are cut from the same cloth so hopefully one keeps the other around |

I love getting Miller, I’ve made mention of him as a trade target this year. I just don’t like trading 1st’s when you just finished 9th last. |

Either way the team loses in the eyes of some fans 🤷♂️I don’t care. Other fans reactions have zero impact on how I feel about the team |

I disagree. A third and a lottery protected first for a 26 year old top 6 winger is A reduced price. 100%. Was it a slight overpayment given they also had a tough cap situation? Perhaps. I’m ok with it because I like the player |

Well, it's only lottery protected for one year, so that's a bit misleading.
I will admit that I don't know the player at all, but like what i've read so far.
It would have been funny if we traded for PK Subban, whom everyone has an opinion on. |

If the pick ends up being in the late teens/early 20’s then I agree that it’s a reasonable cost but again, TB wasn’t dealing from a position of strength so the optics are bad |
