Negative value is a huge over statement, TB having cap issues absolutely means Benning shouldn’t have paid full value for him, unfortunately he did because he wanted him.
Make no mistake, there’s pressure from ownership to make the playoffs but it’s still an overpayment. All that said, if they miss next season, which is expected unless they have a huge upgrade on defense, they keep their 2020. Have another good draft and try to recoup a first for 2021. - Pacificgem

Juolevi to Las Vegas for Colin Miller? The Miller boys. If you’re going for it, go for it. |

I disagree. A third and a lottery protected first for a 26 year old top 6 winger is A reduced price. 100%. Was it a slight overpayment given they also had a tough cap situation? Perhaps. I’m ok with it because I like the player - CanuckDon

I agree, it just means other than Boeser and maybe Leivo all our other forward RFAs are history. - A_SteamingLombardi

Keep OJ & sign Gardiner 5/6-6.5m.
Cost is up to 3m more & keep a depth asset. |

The reported ask from the Gardiner camp starts at 7x7. No thanks. Plus he’s 29 years old and he might not want to sign in another Canadian city. |

I'd go higher AV and shorter term.

Next year sign Barrie to replace Tanev. |

Easy to say, hard to know. They’ll need another stellar year from Markstrom and Edler, and Petey and Boeser to take another step. Plus whoever else they bring in will have to deliver. - CubanBuffet
Full season for Hughes will help. |

Like D-Bot said, he’ll have to play well enough to be in the Calder conversation. A lot of ifs. |

Take the BPA!
ugh, not a Russian though!
Make a trade for a top 6 forward!
Wait, don't trade assets though!
Sign a UFA!
Not that one!!! - dbot
That’s a poor characterization of (what are we calling him now?) Marwood. I feel confident in saying I can speak for him when I say: he did not care if it was the Russian or the American, it was always about who Bracket thought was the best player available. He never wanted to trade for a top 6 forward, it has always been about allowing the current drafted players to develop, and filling in around the edges. Trading for top 6 forwards costs more than the team can afford at this juncture. And while it’s only June 22nd, I’m positive he has never once advocated to sign any of the over priced UFA’s to stupid $ & term on July 1st, so I’m just heading off your third point. |

Might as well throw in a first as well, just to be consistent. |

I wonder if the over age picks had anything to do with filling the Comets roster. They need serious help with the forwards and I bet Aquilini didn't want all the one way contracts like Kero and Bouchard |

I don’t think Gardiner settles for less than 6 years in this market |

Probably. Also can the Euro players play in the AHL early? |

I wonder what the GMs will do . I don't know now that the cap number is in if GMTs will go long term. All the contracts Benning has brought in so far have been reasonable cap and term wise. |

My comments weren't directed at Marwood per se, more the overall vibe of the fanbase.
I was poking fun at how negative Marwood got overall, mostly because I seem to recall him laughing at others when they over reacted in the past.

He's 29 in a few days, so if he did 5 years, he could potentially squeeze one last contact when 34.
Just a thought. |

It might be better to sign Gardiner 2 x8.8 or 3x8 and tell him when Edlers contract is up we can do another deal. |
