But Petey won the Calder so they are automatically a playoff contender. Gotta stock up for a deep run. - Marwood
Man, are we ever going to look bad when this team makes the playoffs next year and Lordy gets to "told you so" |

Tyler Myers is the taller version of Colin Miller. A 3rd pairing defence who can put up 30 points a season.
Not worth 6 million dollars a season. Unfortunately with the cap where it's at, he's still probably worth 4-4.5 compared to similar players from previous cap percentages - manvanfan
Id prefer C.Miller if the cost isn’t high, I think he’s a bit better defensively than Myers and obviously won’t be on a potential cap dump type of contract that Myers might end up being.
If Miller costs too much then look elsewhere or try to sign a couple of value guys in free agency after the initial wave of craziness. Teams like the Caps have done a nice job of finding quality defensive depth without giving up an arm and a leg. |

if you have a defenseman on your third pairing making above 3 million, just like you have players on your 4th line making above or between 3.5 - 6, you are doing it all wrong. |

Myers is exactly what we don't need.
If Benning does commit to him, it will solidify the decision to not extend him or fire him before his year is done, especially after the fans and everyone see's just how bad Myers is, and how awful it will be to have him play 5 more years after next. - Codes1087
Weird that Winnipeg wants him back. They must have stupid fans and a stupid GM as well |

When I think of Myers I think of his shot. 9 G 31 pts. That is where it ends for me. It all comes down to cost and term before I will judge it. - VANTEL
That’s fair.
I agree that his shot would be a nice weapon for the PP and is something the Canucks lack.

I'm looking forward to 'injuries & travel' being the reason they came up short.

Panthers fans loved Gudbranson, Luongo and Willie Mitchell loves him. Prefs fans and Sharks fans didn’t exactly “love” Hamhuis and Ehrhoff. Crazy how that turned out.
Besides, I’ve seen plenty of Jets fans call Myers overrated. They worship Morrissey. |

I have a few friends who are Jets fans. I can confirm both. They think Chevy is stupid, and they are stupid |

I just don't think it is prudent to be trading 1st round picks that could potentially be a top 3 selection. I don't dislike Miller. He is 1000% better than Beagle, for instance. But the path I suggested the other day was sending out players for 1st etc when you have developed someone else to replace them. Trading Miller for a first and a third gives Tampa both the Cap relief they need right now, but also an opportunity to restock their prospect pipeline (two fold) for the future. - 1970vintage
the best team in the league, had a record breaking season, with amazing core players, most if not all who were drafted within the first 2 rounds of that team (stamkos, hedman, point, kucherov, cirelli, etc), just obtained another 1st round pick, and 3rd round pick, and shed salary.
Good teams find ways to not only keep staying competitive, keep their draft cupboard full, and find ways to continue to obtain picks. |

I guess. Not the kind of attitude you want from an e executive running a billion dollar business though. I think Benji and Franky shop at the same bath salt store. - 1970vintage
I think if the team shows big improvement they go forward , if not Benning goes.
I think Twitter and Hockey Buzz is full of know it alls that think they know everything (myself included). It is one extreme or the other . Let Benning build his team. Let Aquilini determine if it was a success or not at the end of the year or sooner. We can't actually do a whole lot other than discuss it , right?
Grab the popcorn and enjoy they year ( or not)

Might as well cash that check right now. We’re making the playoffs (if there aren’t any major injuries) & we’re losing a pick in the high teens. The only question is - can we make other moves right now to take advantage of league wide cap issues & take someone else’s pick? Hot take - VGK’s 2020 1st will be higher than the one we lose to TB. Get it while they think they’re picking late. |

After the Miller trade, I no longer have confidence that the Knights will get bent over like they should. |

Colin Miller’s better IMO. Pair him w/ Rathbone in a year & give him some freedom to gunsling. - DrChristianTroy
With Myers next contract that would certainly give the edge to Colin Miller |

There was lots of speculation after Trouba was moved. It was all over the place asking if Jets will reconsider now .

I'll wait until free agency is done and we have a better idea what the Defence, and the rest of the forward groupe look like next year. IMO Hughes and Miller don't turn this into a playoff team |

I think anyone who thinks this team ins't better talent-wise next year is kidding themselves. I expect them to be better, you add Hughes, Miller and likely at least 1 more decent player to the roster and ideally some improvement from guys like Gaudette/Demko, and it's hard to say that they they're not a better team.
I expect them to be better, even if I disagree with there cost of the acquisitions. |

chevy would be dumb not to engage with Myers agent and see what kind of $/term he is looking for, but from what I can see, the majority of that fanbase is ecstatic that they are finally rid of him. With Trouba gone, im hoping that Chevy re-signs him and we can put this speculation and option to rest, cause I want nothing to do with Myers.
Colin Miller and Benn IMO are perfect trades/signings at this point.

Cost aside, the more important question will be how much better relative to their rivals? We will have to wait a bit to make some guesses. |

we just did an awful job at utilizing that ample cap that we had. 17 million currently after Miller, Boeser (speculation of course) will probably eat up 7 mill. Leivo 2 or 3. I imagine that Rafferty/Teves get new minimum 1 mill contracts as they were specifically referenced when they were asked about not drafting any D. Our big chunk of cap suddenly dwindled pretty quickly. |

If we make the playoffs and get bounced in four games it is still a big improvement over two years ago |
