Johnsson is older and signed for more years (rumoured 4 years vs 3 years).

Makes sense that he gets paid slightly more. Plus, he was probably the better of the two last season. 1 less point in 5 less games played and was also on the 4th line for the first quarter of the season.

Johnsson being older is what would make one think he is worth less on a 3-4 year deal. Johnsson did 3 pro years in Europe and two with the Marlies to get to this point. Things are easily trending towards kapanen being the far better player by the end of year 3 on those deals.

Water under the bridge, the way salaries are trending across the board I think both are fantastic deals.
