Lou signed that deal.
Dubas did what he had to do to get rid of it. - Santo_44
wait a minute.
the 6million he now compensates could have almost been completely covered earlier by signing marner to 8mln and matthews to 10mln contracts earlier. |

No. The offer sheet doesn’t just come from the other team. The player has to agree and sign it. It is then binding in the original team chooses not to match. - Dr. Leaf
Exactly. So if the player is given an offer sheet. (Say at 12.5 million) it increases their bargaining power since they can threaten to sign it.
An unsigned offer sheet definitely changes the landscape in negotiations.

Robertson is a top notch pick up there. Almost a year younger than some other prospects, has speed, a motor that doesn't stop and makes a habit of beating goalies (shot, toe drag, deke-out). Also trash talks apparently.
Got yourselves a Marchand/Gallagher en route! |

i don't think he got raped, but he just waited too long doing stuff and this was the only/best option left on the table. considering the situation, i don't think it's that bad. |

Basically Chychrun for Cholowski and Hronek. Coyotes took Datsyuk's cap hit with no actual salary owed. Filed retirement papers. Went to KHL. |

Interesting the LA Kings drafted Tobias Bjornfot with the 1st round pick they got from the Leafs for Muzzin.
He projects to be a Hjarlmarsson. Usually those "low ceiling but safe" picks turn into solid NHLers. Would have been interesting to add a Bjornfot type to the Sandin and Liljegren mix they had going on.
Some other interesting names on the board at 22 as well, like McMichael, Foote and Sukuzi.
Not sure if it was worth it for a year and a half of Muzzin.
Now that 1st round pick to get rid of Marleau, that's going to be two years in a row. Not good. |

fully expect leafs and hurricanes to make a 2nd deal - seems that marleau deal was part of ongoing discussions. similar to what leafs did a few years ago with i think ana (?). |

Told ya Marleau was gone though.
Done in one of the worst possible ways but the writing was always on the wall.
I think the #1 reason it cost them a 1st round pick was because it's June 22nd.
That means Carolina has to pay his bonus.
And the Leafs couldn't wait until July 1st to pay the bonus because of the threat of offersheets and potentially being unable to match one. |

Safe picks made by competent management groups, which Dubas seems to be at the draft with his previous two late 1st round picks of defensemen. You're reaching. Come on now.
The Leafs got better by keeping their 1st round picks. Now they're starting to trade them. It's better to keep them. That's my point. |

no they couldn't wait to trade him b/c the buyout period ends. He was only waiving NMC for a buyout. |

Yes I understand how offer sheets work but if he is presented with a big offer he can simply take that to the leafs and use it to his advantage, have the leafs up the offer by threatening to sign it.
