leafs have 4 centers, and none of them are killing penalties.
doesn't make any sense - creates an issue for the PK from the faceoff.
nylander and kadri are too expensive for #3C position on this leafs team (with approx 40% of capspace invested in matthews-marner-tavares).
makes more sense to trade these guys and go after a guy like anders lee.

- MaximusAurelius

Kadri is making essentially 3C money now (especially when you compare him to someone like Hayes).

Nylander is best served on Matthews wing, and if he can get back to being a 60+ point guy, then he's paid fairly. Being able to fill in at C helps too.

Kadri isn't all that expensive for a 3c on a +80m cap.

To get rid of Marleau I would rather give up the first than Kapanen or Johnsson.

The Leafs will likely have this core for 5 years. In that time there will need to be movement or decisions on Kadri, Rielly, Andersen, and Kapanen and Johnsson, again.

After the 5 years, the whole thing is a big question mark again depending on what Matthews or Marner chooses to do.

So, they are in win now, and Johnsson or Kapanen is worth more than next year's first.

gonna be hard to fill out the roster with cheap young players if you have no first round picks. not seeing the strategy here.

Change your mindset to winning.

They will have a tougher time winning a cup with Marleau's cap hit.

They still have draft picks....They aren't going into the draft with zero picks.

as it is now next season is a write off. so they will have what, 4 years with matthews on board? tiny little window for a cup win. dunno, im not that optimistic right now lol. the league shifting towards rfa's getting huge deals could not have come at a pooptier time for the leafs. pretty much (frank)ed over their shot at winning anything.

all signs point to dubas being a poop gm

If by signs you mean you rationalizing to confirm your bias; then yes.
Lou makes bad signing- Dubas left to clean up the mess - blame Dubas.

I completely disagree, there is zero reasons for me to believe next season is a write off.

Every good team has good RFA's...

This is a classic Leaf fan post The Leafs cleared some much needed salary to help them win. That is all.

The price to dump Marleau for 1 year is a 1st round pick. That's ridiculous, but necessary due to the current cap restraints.

I do find it funny though. People on here were claiming that they would get a return for Marleau. I guess they didn't realize that the return was a 6th round pick

All joking aside. Leafs now have 14M in cap space. Enough to sign Marner + some lower line players. Now they need to move the Horton contract so that they can sign Kap + Johnsson and then they can ice a team that is slightly worst than last year.

I was saying Bracco was fair and people yelled at me.

I'll take the first instead..Bracco is closer to the NHL.

they basically had their entire plan built around the idea that rfa's are cheap and it shows.

You understand how LTIR works, right?

Plus they can be 10% over the cap through the summer...

I don't see that.

Every other top RFA in the league is not signed right now.

Its a process. It's just a classic Leaf fan thing to do to expect failure before anything is even done. It is June 22nd...
