Tyler nice recap of the draft and chatter of what the hawks are thinking.
I also heard Chicago is interested in Dvorack? Im not really sure that every time their is a new player mentioned that Chicago has interest in , to me it seems like Stan is down grading more and more.
I also don't see how Stan can set this team up for next year and keeping in mind strome, cat money needed?
They have roughly 16 million , 4 million in RFA signings now Chicago has 12 million available.
However Chicago has over 17 million invested into unproductive personnel, Seabrook, anisomov and saad .
I'm getting the feeling more and more your going to see Stan choke, their was also talk about bringing Kruger back?

I agree with your point . However Keith can still function in a lesser role , but he is still a problem going forward, when you take into account his age, declining play , length of contract remaining and he is a cap recapture penalty problem for Chicago.
I know a lot of people have various opinions on the subject of Keith, but at 35 years old and just flat out worn down from 3 cups 5 finals, 2 Olympics and a plethora of games played it was apparent in their second cup run that Keith was being over taxed then for the team to make the finals and get bounced then then the following year that was it for Keith.

Saad is still a valuable asset. Overpriced maybe, but he brings two Cups and speed.
And who is to say the Hawks "have" to sign both DeBrincat and Strome? They could bring in another center and let the chips fall where they may while deciding which to keep longer term.
To do that they either move Anisimov to wing or move him. |

Tank a year for Lafreniere? - stanleyhawk
Anybody know if Lafreniere is projected to be a better prospect then Hughes? Is he a generational guy? |
|
|
|
Looking at what Carolina got from the Leafs for a player on an expiring contract and is still useful, makes me wonder why we did not make this move with our Cap space. A first rounder is valuable currency in today's NHL.
I am still looking for Bowman to squeeze another desperate club (and there are enough of them out there) like we got squeezed for several off-seasons.
If AA gets moved after July 1, how would either Brassard or Colin Wilson look as 3rd line center on a bargain contract? I have always liked Wilson who seems to be at his best at playoff time. |

I think that the talking stage with all free agents starts today. |

From the hype for the last of couple years it appears that Lafreniere is closer to generational than Hughes. |

Corey Pronman gives the Hawks a B, which I find charitable, especially given the Hawks drafted at 3, which is hard to mess up and should garner an A. Pronman gave the Devils an A+ and the Rangers an A, drafting 1 and 2. However, the Hawks did mess up at 3. Pronman not high on Dach. I think Vlasic helps move it to a B. Should even be lower.
Most telling is that the Avs and Kings get...ready for it...As!!! At 4 and 5. For choosing players the Hawks could have chosen. When the Hawks foolishly took Dach the Avs and Kings jumped for joy as Byram and Turcotte fell to them. Into their laps. When the Wings took Sieder the Sabres literally lost their collective minds as Cozens fell to them. Management and players like Eichel did handstands.
So for the top 5 - A+, A, B, A, A. Which letter doesn’t belong. It’s OK to say it - the freakin’ B!
Byram, Turcotte and Cozens are going to be stars based on elite skating and elite skill. Dach does not have elite skating or elite skill. He is actually slow. Watch his “highlights” from the Blades. Muck goal after muck goal. Not to mention he is prone to laziness and disappeared completely mid-season. However, StanBo fell in “love” with him. Maybe it was the 26 goals - yes 26 goals.
Remember we got Toews at 3. Dach is as far from a Toews as it gets. While Byram, Turcotte and Cozens will soar, Dach will take his average skating and average skill and muck around on the third or fourth lines. |

Hey Scott - Vegas is obviously looking at a lot of options.
The guys I mentioned in the blog are ones I've identified as possibilities.
Another one I just heard was Marchessault. I don't see the Golden Knights moving him, but they will need to get creative. - Tyler Cameron
creative indeed...i suspect McPhee and assistants are working 5 cell phones with a data base to keep track of the offers coming in...
it looks to me like at 3-4 decent players will have to be moved...tuch will not be one of them; he is young and that is a great cost controlled contract for them

unproductive?? saad did not have good 17-18 season but he did come back last year...he is at best 25 goal-50 pt guy who when he wants to has a decent 200 ft game...those guys given the hayes contract are now commanding 7-8 mildo...
anisimov is the only productive net presence guy they got and needs to play 3rd line role...he is at best a 15-20 goal, 40 pt guy now and those command 4-5 mildo; slow sure...
with seabs i can agree to a point...he is a liability and you need to spot play him with lower minutes now...but with those contract terms he ain't going anywhere for at least another year or 2...
all teams have bad contracts and players that have dropped off in production or don't fit their roles anymore...tough to find takers for those guys.. |

Draft grades are the worse type of “sports journalism” in the world. It is all based on who got lucky/value relative to my personal pre draft rankings. Every kid taken from 1 until the final pick is a prospect until proven otherwise. No one has a clue if Jack Hughes becomes Patrick Kane or Patrick Stefan. If you want to analyze what they got, fine but grading it is a waste. Grade it in 3 years. |

I have really been on this guy since it was suspected we would be takong Hughes.
Everyone says whats he going to do when he gets hit welk having Reaves on the bench is going to make a lot of guys think twice about the kind of contact they will want to be making on our young star.
If you guys land him though I wont be to upset as I still got high hopes for Kurtis Gabriel being the heavyweight king in the NHL soon just needs to work on his skating..... Alot lol - Devilish4
Reeves will make zero guys think twice about hitting Hughes. |
