I don t think Stastny at $6.5 and 35 is better than Anisimov at $4.5. When was the last time Stastny hit 50 points? What other parts of his game is $2;mil. better than Anisimov? I covet Eakin because he is signed for only 1 year. - LAHawk
We all have our reasons/opinions , but surely there are plenty of better options out their for Chicago to go after.
Even if it's a late pick Stan gets I'm okay with that because having some available cap space to spend elsewhere is also good.
Joe pavelski is available he would be better and Chicago would be in the 5 million range for a guy who plays center and wing and still produces more than anismov |

I would argue the Leafs got off cheap but that is just me. May have something to do with watching 3 Cup teams get dismantled to varying degrees due to the cap. - Elbows15
If I was part of the ownership, I would question why they gave Marleau the deal originally b/c the added the cost of a first rounder to the UFA signing... |

So what UFA deal do you think will be announced first?
Panarin and/or Bob, or someone else...? |

To me the return no matter what Chicago gets either a upgrade in another key area like defense , or picks , prospects, or just more cap space .
Chic ago can turn around and look at players like Anders Lee he is a heck of lot better than saad even if it cost Chicago 7 million your talking the difference of 1 million.
Chicago can not trout out the same tired team and expect better results.
eakin, stastny ,Joe pavelski would be upgrades down the middle over anismov. - Taylorst1
A Lee would be a great addition, but its not just $ but also term, and Lee is looking for term- he would be on the wrong side of 30 for most of that contract, and I can see everyone complaining about his albatross of a contract (ala Seabs) as his abilities decline.
Do not get me wrong, I have no problem trading either, but have a feeling we would not get value for the trades, and would end up with more expensive (potentially better) replacements (and again, cost is not just $- what would Eakin cost in $ and also what we give up in a trade? or how long would a Lee contract be and would it prevent us from signing Dcat and others to extensions?). Not sure if the entire cost would be worth the move. |

Wiz,
Thanks for all the work you put in on the draft site, your thoughts and comments the past several weeks on this board, and the links to the Hawk draft choice profiles on page 1.

Agreed. Some deals are done and they turn sour after a few years, then some smell before the ink is even dry. Everyone saw that being a problem the moment it was announced, and it was such an unnecessary reach for Toronto given their roster and cap concerns. |

I doubt that. Even though the nhl protects the guys that cheap shot from enforcers. Even though I hate reaves he's the toughest guy in the league. - vandymeer23

Hearing that William Karlsson’s extension, once signed this week, will be 8-year max term, which was really important to him. Loves it in Vegas. - mrpaulish
Sound like the deal will be 8 years and just under $6 million AAV. |

You make some great points. However that's the price of free agency , and if Chicago offer sheets a RFA Chicago then blows it's future draft picks .
Any trade IMO isn't going to get Chicago a great return without giving up a prospect or say cat or strome.

Term is a bit long - but he’s relatively young (26yrs old) - AAV is solid and will look even better in a few seasons. |

The term is long but the cap hit is favourable. He’ll be 34 when the deal is done, for the last 4 years $6 million will be a very very reasonable portion of the overall cap limit. |

Hopefully there’s a big rush on the top end UFAs and Stan can focus on Tanev.
Does anyone have any feedback on Riley Sheahan? On paper he seems like a decent option for the 4th line but I haven’t seen him play enough to form an opinion. |

I would think they’re hoping Glass will emerge as their #1 centre for the long term with Wild Bill as their #2. |

I'm just a realistic person who is being honest about Chicago's personnel.
Toews and Kane can not be paired up all season long because it limits Chicago's ability to generate offensive production.
Imo toews won't have the same type of year he had last year, when you look at his last 4 years he has had 1 great season and 3 mediocre.
- Taylorst1
If you were realistic, you’d know how valuable a guy like Saad is, especially come playoff time. |

I think they didnt really think they where ever going to get JT when they signed Marleau to that. |

Seems to be a bit of an up and down player. One season he has some decent numbers and is good at the dot - then regresses. If you had some confidence you were getting the good version - he’d be worth consideration. He’s currently making a little over $1M - probably seeking a raise from that. It depends where you saw him slotted (4C) and how much you wanted to devote cap space to that role. |
