Hmmm ... William Karlsson at $6M or Kevin Hayes at $7M? Don't have to think long and hard about that one.

I feel lke Kane and Toews will play together again, as the Hawks want Strome and Debrincat together. There is chemistry there with 19 and 88 and 17 and 12.

16 million isn’t real cap space?
- gifman

Its only available for this season with ADB/Strome pending the following season.

Maybe the $81.5 million salary cap will bring a salary correction to the market place.
- walleyeb1

Karlsson signing for $6M certainly doesn't hurt the Hawks negotiating position on Cat's and Strome's next deals.

Per Cap Friendly:

With @JesseGranger reporting Karlsson's new deal will carry a $5.9M AAV, plus the $81.5M Upper Limit, & our assumptions below, we estimate #Vegas is currently $1.5M over the off-season cap.

The club can add Clarkson to off-season LTIR & temporarily raise their ceiling to $94.9M

Is there any way to retain Gus's services, while limiting his exposure during 5 on 5 play? When teams periodically dress 7D, how debilitating is that for the offense, really? Don't have an actual clue, which is why I am throwing this out there. Thanks.

It’s not ideal because you are basically not playing 3 players (7th d and your 2 f on the 4th line) or at least not playing them much.

The thing on Dach...you remember after the Worlds how Hughes in interviews was saying yeah he was taking the time until the draft off from hockey after the grueling schedule to just be a kid?

Well, Dach, you wasn't able to represent Canada in the World's because of an injury he got against Prince Albert Raiders when Saskatoon was eliminated.
He was (during the players teams sent as many players as possible at Dach to try and curtail the way he not only came back and controlled play with his back-checks and un- earthing of possessed pucks, and turned around and got the flow going back the pother way) injured in the playoff campaign and knew he could partipate.

When interviewed, HE said he was going to be in the weight room and training before the combine snd all summer to get better.

I just have this feeling that the Hawks get him in town in their development program, he might just be the beast who makes the roster, but we will see...no rush.

That is if the Hawks are willing to give both 8 year deals. Debrincat, yes, Strome, jury is still out for that length IMO.

Some of that $16,000,000 goes into signing your own RFA's, such as Perlini (who Bowman said will be resigned), Quenneville, Sikura, and Kamph.
- ChicagoHope

Perlini 2 mil
Kampf 1 mil
Others < 1 mil

AA is being trade that frees 4.55. So what are we looking at 17 mil in cap space now?

No team dumping salary is signing AA. Hawks dont trade him unless they have a replacement via another deal.

All accounts and reports on the kid is that he’s very mature and very focused. A bit of the Captain Serious streak in him. I’m sure that impressed Bowman and Kelly during their interviews with him.

Yeah I wonder what kind of resources were available to him with his old club, he does strike me as a kid that will take full advantage of whatever training resources are made available to him.

I understand the reason for the 10% off season tagging rule but it seems more like a "who cares" thing because the team has to be cap compliant on opening day regardless if they went the cap in the off season by as much as 10%. What am I missing here?

Hypothetically Dach makes the team, nice looking Top 6 of

Dach-Toews-Kane

Saad-Strome-Debrincat

Or do you go with a big boy line like the Hawks did with Saad-Toes-Hossa, and have that line be: Saad-Toews-Dach, and Dach plays his more comfortable right wing.

Then you have a 2nd line of Debrincat-Strome-Kane. Interesting because you have your best passer fedeing your best sniper.

All hinges if Dach makes the roster, agreed no rush, sometimes fun to speculate though.

I wouldn’t give 8yr deals to either - unless it was for a very team-favorable $.

Like others have been advocating, I would lean real hard on both players to ink a bridge deal. If they continue to develop and you pay more later in the next deal - no problem - they earned it. That’s what the organization did with Toews and Kane - and they both had strong individual performances and championships on their resume.

At best - maaaaaybe Dach gets a look - this year.

Too risky to move AA yet. Unless Stan can get Eakin for one year by eating Clarkson’s contract. But that’s over $9MM right there.

If Dach does make the club this season (and I still wonder if that’s the best course of action) it would more likely be at wing rather than center - given the added responsibilities the center position requires. However, I think the Hawks would ultimately still steer his development toward the center position.

But, as you mentioned, a line of Saad, Toews and Dach has the potential to be a down-low puck-cycling machine.

Well he referred to the off season cap in his opening statement. Big Deal. They still have to dispose of several millions in salary before the season starts. Maybe he's trying to paint a rosy picture for Knights fans.

Anyone know if the Nikita Nesterenko that the Wild drafted is any relation to Eric "Swoop' Nesterenko that played for the Hawks back in the '60's? Thanks.

You ain't kidding. I think Dach makes the club. Let him start out on the wing. Just let him focus on the speed of the NHL and playing D. The points will come. Kid has all the makings of a Hossa like 2 way guy. Over all, I really like the draft, especially the top 2 selections.
