Hearing Rangers have a meeting scheduled with Panarin this week (#NYR president John Davidson, who knows him well from Columbus will be in on it) but it remains possible, if not probable, Panarin and Bobrovsky sign with FLA. - jimbro83

Should Panthers rumors begin shortly in first, asking one or both to waive their NMC/NTC clauses in Hoffman (1 year left at $5,187,500 with a Modified NTC), and Dadonov (1 year left at $4M with an M-/NTC/NMC), for purposes of a trade of one or both, the Panthers will likely pay whatever it requires to sign both Panarin and Bobrovsky.
Once their season ended, their owner gave their GM, Dale Tallon the right "to spend up to the cap ceiling" to have them return to postseason play, which they fell just short of due the vast majority to their sub par goal tending after the All Star break. |

If we miss out on Panarin, do we take the Hoffman or Dadonov contracts with a sweetener? |

One year left on Hoffmans contract. Maybe he plays well and we deal him at the deadline...

If fearing Panarin signing elsewhere, the Rangers must extend Kreider on a long term deal. They can further bolster their offense once utilizing buyout means of Shatty &/or Smith. But they should also seek some low cost experienced, defensive specialty depth options to fill shorter two year term lengths, should Brooks' words be accurate in the Rangers wanting UFA's for up to 2 year terms only.
An up front option to provide experience & leadership, and perform best primarily in defensive roles despite his age 34, would be former Ranger & now Preds UFA, Brian Boyle, who they will not be retaining. A similar but slightly more expensive trade option, is Winnipeg's 3 years younger, Mathieu Perrault with 2 seasons at $4.125M remaining on his contract. The overall trade cost to acquire him could lower due to the Jets urgent need for cap space, with them needing to retain Laine, Connor, and Myers if not opting for free agency, among 3 key of 13 current roster UFA's/RFA's. Also, should a buyout of d'men in Shatty &/or Smith be utilized, a low cost replacement depth option would be bringing back UFA, Adam McQuaid if officially becoming one on July 1st.
Kreider has not yet been dealt due primarily to their uncertainty on Panarin's most important desires and first destination preference. In addition, teams are likely low balling Gorton with offers, in being aware of their interest in Panarin. That latter reason could also pinpoint in part, for their inability to trade either Shatty or Smith, despite willing to pick up 50% of their remaining contracts. |

Just for conversation (I don’t think this is smart) but is there a scenario where we don’t land Panarin and we still trade Kreider? This would obviously extend the rebuild another year. Based on the two year clean slate, not a crazy idea...
What return would he bring back at that point? It would be a tough pill to swallow. |

Hypothetically I would think they would wait till the TDL to trade Kreids if they didn't land Panarin. I could see them wanting to see what they have in Kakko and Kravtsov before they make any decision. imo |

It could. All depending on who they want to move and who is playing well. Although after the Nash trade and then the Hayes one, teams might be reluctant to give us 1sts anymore |

That's possible if they can also acquire a sweetener in a draft pick or prospect, should the Panthers be unwilling to retain a small portion of either's remaining year's 2019/20 contract, whereby the draft pick or prospect would then have to be slightly higher in value.
With it appearing Panarin may likely be heading to Florida, had Zucc not been seeking a long term deal, I would have considered a 2 year term to bring him back. That, after first having Kreider extended long term, which would have then likely reunited the Kreider / Zib / Zucc line of last season. That's when Kreider scored 20 of his 28 goals, through about 1 month or so prior to Zucc being dealt just two days prior to the deadline.

I wouldn’t even want Florida to retain any salary. If we miss out on Panarin, there’s plenty of cap space.
Both guys become great one year assets. |

I would not trade Kreider if Panarin signs elsewhere. He must be extended long term to not slow the rebuild, which instead accelerated due to landing both Kakko and Trouba, in addition to Kravtsov likely making the pro roster. The return now would have to be huge to part with Kreider.
There is no need to worry about cap space by extending Kreider. As of today, after these next 2 seasons, only 3 players are signed to pro roster contracts, in Zib, Skjei, and Fox, plus Kravtsov would be their 4th if he officially is on it. For the following season, Skjei is currently their only player, both (pro) roster and non roster wise, that is currently signed for that 2022/23 campaign. |

I agree, as per my just posted reply to you on Kreider, with the Rangers in effect, having very few players currently signed after these next two seasons. |
