as long as everyone is looking ahead, how about that Barkov guy becoming a UFA in 2022 - jimbro83
Florida is one of those tricky places you just arent sure what the team is gonna do or what the players are thinking. If Bobs and Panarin go there, hard to see Barkov leaving unless he pulls one of those youngin ego trips and says he wants to leave to play with Kaapo. 😆

My expectations are for him to be a consistent player scoring 30+ goals, 60+ points. Someone who doesnt disappear on the ice with the kind of regularity that he does. His style of play will only cause him to miss more games than he already does. Hes essentially a Ryan Callahan and when the time came for him to get paid, a lot of what I said above about Kreider were the reasons why we didnt hold onto him.
I get it, as Rangers fans, we are incapable of moving on from players we’ve drafted. - aecliptic
The term and the chances of him declining are valid reasons to not signing him to a long term contract. Those 30+ guys a year are pretty rare though. Again, there is a reason those guys get paid very well. Chris Kreider is also a better player than Cally. He has as many 20 goal seasons as Cally in half the number of seasons. His last 20 goal season came on a pretty stacked Lightning team to boot.
I think if a fortune teller told the Rangers brass before the CK pick what his exact stats were up until today, they still would have drafted him then. Getting a consistent 20 goal guy with the 19th pick is a huge value. I think it's unfair to give him these massive expectations.

For none other than homer reasons, would love to see Amonte have a good camp. Of course I want to see my boy Tarmo explode. Plenty of room on that bandwagon I'm starting.

Brooks certainly makes a good point for not getting Panarin and trading Kreider

Reminder the RFA interview period opens at 12:01am on the 26th and closes at 12pm on July 1. Marner among the group expected to have multiple team visits.

I am by no means saying he isnt a good hockey player. I just dont want to sign him long term and then have an albatross on the books when the wear and tear, as well as declining starts happening in 3-4 years. If it comes down to it, I think a 5 year, 6.5m AAV contract is doable.
