After Hayes' contract I don't want to try and predict what Provorov would get. |

Karlsson is an RFA. You are comparing apples to oranges. - Djapana
Still Hayes is a gross over-payment and what makes it worst are the facts around it
So close to Free Agency and also a complete unacceptable term

Bingo.
If he didnt sign here, someone would have signed him...And probably for more....and we still wouldn't have a 2C |

It will be interesting to see what Anders Lee gets. Apparently he is going UFA and is a comparable (I thought slightly better) player to Hayes. |

And with or without him we are doing absolutely nothing for a few years until the young guys especially hart gain experience. But at least we have a horrible laughingstock contract (Hayes) and can say we have an average 2c |

Lets see after July 1st if this is a laughing stock.
Personally, if he can pot 60-65 points a season playing with JVR and Voracek (not unrealistic), then i dont feel it is. Btw, the NMC is only for the 1st 3 years...undoubtedly he wanted that to protect himself from the Seattle expansion. Then it goes to a partial NMC.
Additionally...when players getting 55 points are making 10 mil a season 2-3 years from now...how will this contract look?

If the Flyers can get Provy at 7 mi for 8 years, they should sign it today.
That is a no-brainer. - ggunky
Not sure I feel confident locking Prov into a long-term deal yet. I'd take a wait and see deal of like 3-4 years, then revisit later.
I honestly don't feel like there's any danger of him developing into a Doughty or something. He's a McDonagh, JBo tier guy. You don't need to lock those guys into 7-8 year deals because you're scared their AAV is gonna get out of hand if you don't. Give him ~$6-7M for 3-4 years and get it done.
Sanheim is the guy you need to lock into a Seth Jones kinda deal. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up supplanting Prov at 1D at some point soon. Myers has an outside chance of surpassing Prov too. |

I must be one of the few that doesn't have a huge problem with the Hayes contract. He addresses a big number of our needs and gives the team legit center depth and can slide over to the wing in the future if need be. I get that people hate the NMC but that's the nature of sports contracts now and you're never going to be happy with ANY player having a NMC at the end of the day. |

This is exactly where I am
If they went eight with Provorov, I wouldn't throw myself off a cliff. But I wouldn't necessarily be afraid to bridge him or go shorter term.
I think he's a good player. I don't know if he's a great player

Nope. You're not the only one. I feel its a SLIGHT overpayment. But you basically checked off a bunch of boxes signing him:
2nd line center
2 way player
Will improve our 2nd Power play
Will inprove our Penalty killing and help decrease Coots and G's minutes killing penalties.
Faceoff % last season was 49.2%...it has increased every year since he broke into the league.
He did miss 11 games last year. If he played 82...and he hit .77 ppg (55 pts in 71 games)...he wouldve had 64 points playing 7/8ths of the season with a bad Rangers team. He would've been 2nd behind Zabinejad |

As long as you wouldn't be one of the people crying they don't have a 2c - opeth_pa
I think I’m in the minority that could care less about the next year or 2. I look at it like it’s the learning period for hart provy Sanheim tk Myers and to an extended extent frost farabee ratcliffe etc. the real core along with coots of a hopefully Stanley cup team. I don’t worry or care about g or especially Jake prime or end of prime. At best they are secondary pieces in 2-3 years ala hossa on a cup team. Therefore I’d rather have no 2c if need be now rather than have horrible contract muddling up cap or roster spot in a few years for developed players or players hitting their almost prime. I do however understand that they want to try to win now and why they signed Hayes. Hell if it were a 3-4 year deal I’d be all on board. But at 7 years not what I’d want. I preferred hexys approach. People don’t want to hear a few more years because it’s been 5 years to rid bad contracts and build prospects but when you are at bare nothing like we are that’s the only way to do it. And after you build all these prospects and restock those that come to the team you them have to turn some of them over. Crap even coots might not be a major part in a few years. Maybe he’s moved in a few years. Going for it now won’t work. Never has never will. Thought philly understood that by now but appearantly not. We will see time will tell |

Absolute steal is right. He definitely didn’t want to leave. He could have forced their hand for at least another million, million and a half per year very easily. - stayinthefnnet
Must be interested in making money and winning a cup as opposed to just making money like someone else has shown through their entire career. Hey can't fault someone for not leaving millions on the table but as a fan it's definitely harder to root for the guy who puposefully cripples his own team. |

And to a further extent even frustrating as it is at times I enjoy watching players grow. And the prospects coming up. Just sitting back enjoying the ride. I’ve said all along that if you have an “if” in goal you’re already cooked. We were doing nothing until hart came up whether last year or next and got a few years under his belt. We are extremely young club. One of the youngest in the league. Things like trading for niskanen and Braun signing Hayes slightly improves team for year or 2 but at what cost? Do we lose someone to cap restraints? Are players ice time reduced and progress stunted ? Ala Sanheim stupidly not being played 2 years ago? Or Gagne being traded for cap purpose? We shall see. |

If you're giving out contracts like that, Hayes' best season better be the new norm for him. If he's just giving you 12 goals and 40-45 points it's a joke of a deal. However if he can grow upon 54 point season, I can live with it.
