They can't fix the defense unless they're willing move the bad ones out.
If Bjugstad is moved it will be for a lesser quality bottom-six player to free up space to simply keep what they have. - Rinosaur
Absolutely, I just wanted it in print so when GMJR comes here to see all of our “expert” ideas, mine isn’t over looked and missed!!! LMAO |

I like Bjug too. From what I've read, Rutherford loves him. I thought the third line of Bjug, Hornie and Simon was one of the brighter spots at the end of the season. Honestly.... If it came down to Rust of Bjugstad, I'm keeping Bjugstad. Can play center or wing. - madmike71

Is Rust’s contract “bad” or is he just of value? |

He's just of value. $3.5M for a guy like Rust is much easier to 100% move off the books or even for a lesser version at half the price. |

I know there is PK speed with McCann but with Cullen likely (hopefully) done and Hags gone, Rust has value on the team. |

I’d love to have him in AZ. What I like so much about Rust is that his goals aren’t gimmies. They aren’t backdoor tap ins. So many of his goals are just him moving his feet and driving hard to the net. He’s had some big goals in the playoffs too |

Exactly. I see his value as not easily replaced. There is no easy answer in clearing space unfortunately.
Curious, not that this will happen, but if JJ is sent to the minors, the cap number comes off the Cap but you still have to pay the contract? |

I don't believe it comes off the books or every team would do that with their respective albatross. |

Sucks to see the team with the same face.
Keep Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Kessel (for $ reasons; good price). F it. |

3.5 is fair market value for someone like Rust. That being said, ideally you’ve always got someone like him on an ELC. When you don’t, you find yourself in the situation the Pens are in now. |

I believe you save a portion of their Cap hit
I decided to look it up on CF: the cap hit that counts is league minimum plus $375,000 so there would definitely be cap relief, hell thats better than buying him out |

900K is subtracted from the cap hit.
I’m not opposed to stashing JMFJ in WBS this year and hoping for compliance (ie free) buyouts in Summer 2020. |

Since Tojo isn’t here I would also remind everyone that Shattenkirk is a good 2nd pairing option for us as long as it’s at a lower cap hit. He finished the year with 18 points in his last 40 games (only 5 of those on the PP), played primarily with Claesson Skjei and Smith (had awful production with Smith, shocker!), he’s a huge positive relative to his teammates in CF and FF.
Tojo nailed it. If we could send them JJ with them retaining $1.65MM of Shats then we would have him with a $5MM cap hit and then Schultz becomes a big trade chip, plus we alleviate all of JJ’s cap hit - WSCTeton17
Why would NYR trade Shatt and retain salary for JJ? |

Those that think any team that trades away the best player always loses.....look at how the Duchene trade worked out for the AVS. |

Funny story...well ironic to your post.
My Father-In-Law is looking to have floors finished by a friend of mine and I told him that my friend prefers to text than call. My father-in-law said, “I don’t know how” around 2:30 this afternoon!!! |

The Avs were in a position to get 100% and then some out of Duchene's trade value. He was signed another year and was in his prime on a fair deal. I dont think anyone expected the Senators to fall off a bridge in the way they have to get Colorado the #4 pick this year.
The Penguins would not get close to 100% in a deal for any of their top players, specifically Letang & Kessel.
