We need a left defenseman and cap space is a finite resource ... some contracts will need to be signed in the next few years for our key players.

Do you really want the Habs to have a fire sale next year like the Leafs and Preds had to do this year?

Planning ahead makes sense in this cap salary era ... and a lot of GM are now learning this lesson.

- Garfield512

That is a good point. Panicking and overpaying for guys like Dubas did with Tavares and WeeLander has put them in the dire straits situation they are in now. I think Bergy is smart enough to learn from the inferior GMs mistakes. Let them make the horrible mistakes then reap the benefits when they have to gift 1st rounders in hopes someone takes their bad contracts. Like Bergy said, Free Agency is where GMs go to die

What is your solution at LHD then? Gardiner would likely look a lot better playing along side Man Mountain than fringe AHLer Zaitsev but I still think that would be a mistake and they would have to pay him more than he should be getting. The other option is Ghost?

We also still need scoring wingers, preferably LW. I'm not willing to rely on Drouin after his disgraceful finish last year. If it was up to me Drouin would already be gone and someone else brought in. This is Montreal, the Mecca of Hockey. You either put your big boy pants on and show up or you get the (frank) out it's that simple

In what universe is he not what we need?

A big power forward LWer that can score and will improve our PP immensely

He is literally EXACTLY what they need, that and a LHD not named Snake Gardiner

I have a bad feeling Gardiner is going to be our Alzner of this year and I sincerely hope I am wrong

Isles PP was God awful and Lee is a big reason why. I hope someone takes him off our hands. Players like him are a dime a dozen.

If I had a choice, I would go with Ghost but the Flyboys won't let him go for free and I don't blame them.

As with all things, it all depends on the asking price ... we are not winning the cup next year anyway so why overpay? Let the kids develop.

We could always put a rookie or a cheap plug on left D if need be ... that's what we did this year and we almost made the playoffs anyway.

As for Drouin, I feel the same way ... I would already have traded his lazy ass.
We'll never win anything with him ... can you imagine him busting his ass off like the Blues did in the playoffs this year? I sure don't.

Ghost is extremely cap friendly at $4.5M which will raise his stock as well. I'm not entirely convinced they will move him before they see what AV can get out of him

I guess at this point you have to hope Drouin has a huge year because Bergy won't be moving him when his stock is at an all time low. Incredibly disappointing player that plays like a spoiled little brat. When the going gets tough he just pouts. He just doesn't have what it takes, too lazy, floats, he is just like Chucky and those god damn idiotic turnovers are enough to drive you mad

Oh gawd

...

He had more PP goals than Benn, Patty Kane, McDavid, Tazer, Seguin, Malkman and Bergeon

He had the same amount of PP goals as Snakevares and Marchand

He was 2 PP goals shy of Sid, Nate the Great and Glasshews

I guess if you'd call that awful..

Chucky and Drouin are guys who have relied solely on their natural talent before getting to the NHL. Once you get there, natural skill will take you only so far ... you need to put in the work and prove you belong.

That's why character evaluation is so important before getting a player ... this is the main reason I would stay far far away from Jesse Puljujรคrvi ... even if he can be had for a song.

I want more Domi/Gallagher's and less Chucky/Drouins on my team.

I love the pick but let's not go crazy before he actually sets foot on the ice.

What Hawks and Kings rivalry? They really never got that heated. They had a pretty feisty one with Vancouver for a few years, but nothing has replaced the Hawks and Red Wings rivalry of old.

Is it pride keeping rutherford from trading phil the thrill to AZ? JR wasnt aware of the cap rules so he couldnt get Hags back for a year so is he aware that the cap limit is 81.5M? Take the 6.8M cap dump and then take that money and sign a UFA he wants. But right now he cannot be active in the free agent market.

the reality is that the pens barely got into the playoffs and got swept in the 1st round. to me (as a long time season tix holder), there is no difference from missing the playoffs and getting swept in the playoffs. the team was very painful to watch at times between some mailing it in games or the abyss that is murray's high glove side.

How about Miller and mcnabb for rust and bjugstad? Phil and johnson for galchenyuk+ a pick? and letang for domi and tatar? Pens would lose 25.1M and pick up 19.2M so they would have $6M in cap savings.

Its probably that Arizona is not on his list of teams he desires to play for

So basically a whole article begging for clicks. Tearfully trying to convince people a host of trades are coming. Truth? You once again had a 1% or less record on your roomers. The only thing that keeps people coming here is for the comedy of it all! How does it feel to be the hockey bloggers biggest clown?
