he got a utility forward from a team in cap crisis for only a 1st and some guy who'll never make it.
he gets a middle 6 guy for a pick in a weak draft essentially.
all aces for trader jim! - RealityChecker

Anyways, why the (frank) would they not offer sheet Kapanen on July 1st if he isn't signed? The kid is 22, just scored 20 goals and 44pts and can outright fly. Rumour has it he's about to sign for 3.1? You can offer 4.1 and only give up a 2nd round pick. - golfingsince
Exactly. Kapanen is stupid to not wait. He owes no loyalty while everyone else hits homeruns. |

Maybe teams need to get in on these 5 year cycles a little more. Just give him less money. - golfingsince
5yrs is trending & better for both the Canucks & BB imo |

that's not right? admittedly i didn't watch the lightning all season but i read that he slid up and down their lineup based on the team's needs.
he played top 6 and 4th line over the season. he's a creative skilled guy who can play from 2nd to 4th line in a variety of situations.
i probably didn't watch enough lightning games. is this not correct? |

Have a feeling that Benning is going to get Brock signed for lower than many think
His contract negotiating has gone from a weakness to a strength.

exactly why he should go all in and trade whatever he needs to for barrie.
the canucks will make the playoffs this season and benning should do whatever he needs to do to make it happen.
a contract extension and making the playoffs in the 50th season are the only things that matter. - RealityChecker
I to rather make a hockey trade for Barrie than pay a UFA D. Lose a player/assets better than a Myers any day in my books. |

I’d do a trade for Barrie and sign another offensive winger |

Chicago also got Saarela.
That trade seems a bit lopsided to me in favour of Chicago. |

Yes correct. That’s more cuz of the coach with a stacked team that was an epic PO failure. They bend over to their faves & imo an overrated team of wasted opportunity. |

Bowman is brilliant, he ended up with him and Clendening on the same NHL roster. |

Other contracts JB has signed is the sell on what he offers BB. It’s a tact that speaks for itself. |

Forsling and Forsberg are barely NHL players. De Haan decent 3rd pairing D man and Saarela still young may have upside.
Chicago does this a lot though. Strome and Perlini for Schmaltz.
A 1st round pick for Ryan Hartman from Nashville. Hartman has never broken 35 points
Certainly has some misses in there as well. |

that's what's so awesome about this summer and especially the next couple of weeks.
next year's team can get sooooooo much better with a couple signings/trades.
where the team is cap wise (it's totally a weapon) and in terms of trajectory (past rebuild and onto contender within a year or 2), benning should be hyper aggressive.
the players brought in matter more than the cost. the cap is going up so who cares. draft picks hardly ever make it and it takes too damn long anyway.
strike while the iron is hot and jimbo inks a contract extension before the team loses in the first round next year. playoffs baby! |

Agreed. JB can come in with
"Hey, Loui signed six years for $6 million so why wouldn't you? Also, he was UNRESTRICTED!!!" |

I presented a bonus laden lockout contract early in this blog. No response at all to it.
If that isn’t enough then nothing is. Again FLA has not as much cap as many think. |
