3 years would still keep him RFA, no?
Get 'er done, Dubas. - Atomic Wedgie
I doubt MM wants it but 3 years (looking at Kucherov's bridge) should start with a 6 or 7 at most. |

You think marleau is going to play for Carolina next year? I heard he was a fan of storm surge. |

Tavares albeit a vg player currently. Was a bad signing. Would have been better to sign Marner. If Marner does accept an offer sheet. It might be a good thing. Although he is arguably the 1 or 2 best player on team. The picks coming back would be a welcome addition to the empty pick shelves. Imo Dubas is in over his head. |

Funny about all of this is that when I said Bonnie Marner seems trailerpark trash (when the mothers went on a trip with the team and she was displaying some very annoying behaviour in the stands) and Marner seems to have a very strange family, most of you told me I was wrong - and some even displayed the for her.
Marner is a guy that comes from a family that is your typical lowlife family - a family which less and less was concerened by 'morals' due to their son's success. That's not to say that Marner is a bad kid - I don't think so at all.
By the way - Marner has every right to negotiate a deal he likes; we're not even 1st of July yet. Marner got less in his first contract (10% less than max on 1st contract) and since he got more points last 3 seasons compared to Matthews, almost similar PPG in regular season and a better PPG in playoffs, he is very right to ask for a very similar AAV as Matthews. - MaximusAurelius
except he's a year older than matthews so a direct year-to-year comparison doesn't make sense.

No idea. From the sounds of things they're going to try and do right by him. Waddell says if he's interested in playing for the Canes, they'll be happy to have him, but if his heart is set on going back to California, they'll buy him out. |

David Ferris, hello. - Tumbleweed
sure.
that's why 11.5 AAV for 8 years is a good deal for Marner (vs the 11.6AAV for just 5y for Matthews).
I understand that - based on your comment of age - you do agree as well that Johnsson at 3.5mln AAV for 4years would be an overpayment? |

Cap 81.5M = 3.5M average salary for 23 man roster.
i would say paying johnsson at or below average for 4 years is fair. |

But why?
Does he defend well? (y/n)
Can you see him defend well? (y/n)
if you answered yes to both above then it you have the go ahead to call said defenseman and good defensive defenseman.
Science eh, its good.
- Fakepartofme
not that simple.. Zaitsev defended well too.. Just couldn't do anything with the puck when he had it. |

Sort of, I guess.
Dundon's pumping money into the thing, and they's jumped from 7k season ticket holders to over 10k this summer, buuuuuut it's still Raleigh.
I think part of the goal here is a perception thing. There are still hockey fans in the area that won't come and don't believe the owner is willing to spend the money to improve the team. The Marleau deal is probably intended at least a little bit to show that he's not afraid to open his wallet a little bit to make the team better. |
