Kind of redundant. If our pick is top 10, something has gone horribly horribly wrong - BestRapperAlive
Prudent move of any GM to protect a 1st round pick traded before the season starts. Lots of unknowns. |

I think its a decent bet.
You assume/hope the pick is say 24-31.
Thats the cost to Keep Marner, Nylander, Kap and Jonsson ...and assuming they can move NZ ..maybe add 1 other upgrade.

It wasn't great to have had to make that trade ....
But, if the best and only opportunity to move Marleau's 6.25, was that deal ...then it was (frank)ing awesome.
..think of the alternative. |

vegas needs to move salary out. recent salary cap moves:
marleau + 1st
pk for pile of meh
braun for 2nd and 3rd
miller shouldn't cost much. i think a lot of gm's would be happy to let mcphee sweat this one out until june 30th after how he handled the expansion draft. - Tumbleweed
I agree, miller for say borgman, a 2nd and maybe another spare marlie might do it. They don't want any salary back.
PK went for meh because NJ was the only team willing to eat the entire salary. The deal with the Leafs would have been for $2.5 to $3 M cap retained. |

.@renlavoietva: I do believe Myers will be a 7 year contract. it could be $8 million per season. $6 million might be a bit low. GM's are looking at the cap being lower and demand for young players - could be less money spent in FA but there's a lot of demand for defensemen.
I would put the regret factor over/under at 1.5 years
and would bet the under |

I don’t think that would have worked either if Patty wanted to go, but why panic and trade a first round pick? Get creative. |

VAR in soccer is as useless as NHL and MLB review.
Official makes bad call, they review it, and still come out with the same bad call. |

C'mon man. The Leafs HAD to move him. If they had him on the roster they'd have to had moved multiple young talented forwards. There was no option.
And to trade him ...it HAD to be to a team willing to buy him out. The buy out window ends June 30th.
So we should assume that Dubas canvassed the whole league and there were probably only 2 or 3 teams with the ability to buy him out and eat the 6.25 in cap space.
And we should assume that he took the best deal possible.
It sucks that it cost a first to get rid of a guy's contract ...but, lesson learned is don't (frank) around with those 35+ contracts. I like Lou but that one's on Lou. |

Marleau trade was horrible? So says a moron I guess. - Mr_Smokey
Agreed..
Dubas played the percentages, a draft pick late in the 1st rd, likely doesn't go on to be a superstar.. It was a move he had to make.. It didn't cost us a roster player or one of our better prospects. It's somewhat lottery protected, and there was no salary retained. |

Pretty much.
You could also think of it as the leafs traded a 1st rounder for marleau on a 2 year deal. It’s probably a later 1st rounder then it would’ve been when they got him. |

Agreed. I had read that it was down to 3 teams, (Leafs being one of them) but only NJ would take on the full $9M |

the thing is, Zeitsev is a much better option for a lot less
But I assume some of the GMs think TM is the TM for 10 years ago who won the Calder?
cuz he is not good now |
