You wouldn't, but it would be a great classic Richard move.
The rule isn't laid out clearly anywhere. It seems a little unusual that it would happen . . .but two clubs submit offer sheets to a player, and he signs with Club 'A', so you call Club 'B' and make a deal for him that perhaps contains players and picks that are more to your liking. Club 'B' would then have to match. If they didn't Club 'B' would receive the 4 1sts! - Monkeypunk
I do believe you just described what happened with p hil kessel.
People forget Nashville put forth an offer sheet. |

I'm not debating that. I'm simply saying it appears that Marner's camp believed this to be unfair. Maybe they saw the way he was treated as not making the most of their investment while they saw others being treated differently.
Like just about every athlete, Nylander included, it is far better to not have your Dad involved with your contracts and demands. As a Dad, of course I would over analyze and be over the top with my kid. That's why agents are necessary in part. - aminnes
Marner really has to get over this whole thing with Matthews. He was the (frank)ing first overall pick, is younger and has better career numbers while not getting to play with tavares. |

But he scored 9 more goals. But goals don’t matter more than assists. Until they do. But they don’t.... - Steven_Seagull

Marner is proving to be far worst than Nylander in character. Trade Marner and make Nylander captain! - Steven_Seagull

Maybe if the two dmen can put up 90 plus points.

I know but put it this way. Would you trade Marner and brown for Hamilton,Pesce,Ferland and four firsts. I'm just useing these names as a reference. But hope people get the drift. Lol

He seems like a good kid. They appear to be friends. He needs to get his dad out of there. |

Except to get those D, we'd need to use the 4 1st rounders....so it woudn't be all that....unless those guys were UFA or something I guess. Not too many D like Hamilton Pesce are available to just sign for free I don't think?

Hopefully the cap drops in 5 years and these greedy sum female doges have to sign for less then what they could have got today. |

Marner + Zaitsev for Jones + Anderson
Add picks/prospects to either side to make it even. Bye Greedy Mitchy. |

Cant wait for Marner to either sign an offer sheet or lose all his leverage when no one offers one. The second July 1st hits i would drop my offer by 1 million for hurting the teams chances to improve. |

I dislike Matthews equally. We'd be in the same boat with him if Dubas didn't cave and give him everything he wanted. None of these guys care about winning. |

I've been pretty shocked as well by this whole process. Not one dime has been left by any of them. It's sad. |

the agent. complaining publicly marner has been low-balled. blaming 4th line time, mono. saying they will look at offer sheets when it's a complete empty threat.
meanwhile, marleau makes a self-less act and waives his nmc for carolina; so dubas has the cap space to sign marner. - Tumbleweed
A selfless act.

You guys just think it's one way or the other. With many issues pertaining to the Leafs. Nylander's dad - cool, Marner's dad - Richard. Nuance. Both are important. Just like Marner is important to JT, and JT is important to Marner. It's not all or nothing.
JT specifically said he was excited to play with a playmaker like AMrner, it was part of why he came to TO. He's dumb I guess. - aminnes
Probably the same people who female doged at people who said the leafs would have cap issues this summer.

One of the major flaws in the NHL system. Hard cap with guaranteed contracts. Dumb. That's why the offseasons have sucked pretty much since the cap came in, and why almost every time star players never get moved. Either go non guaranteed, or go the NBA luxury tax model. Much more fun and many more options for teams. |
