Because Dubas has shown that he buckles. - Azuredoom
Are we still living in a world where Nylander is millions overpaid? LOL. |

Has to be the glasses. Dubas signs Tavares and Ennis. Lou signs Marleau and Martin.
fIrE dUbAs...lOu Is ThE bEsTeSt - Steven_Seagull
Lou has signed dubious contracts after he turned 70, but he used to be so good at signing people under their market value. And he did win something in the past, in fact multiple times and a shoe in for HOF.
Dubas... who knows he might surpass Lou when he retires but I wouldn’t put my house on such bet.

Ask yourself, why is he, or his agent/dad letting it get to this point? - PatC80
Perhaps Dubas and the Leafs should have taken Marner up on his asking price last summer when it was somewhere around $9M x 8. |

Hasn't changed. Still sitting in the stands yelling to mitch that he should work harder/skate faster/shoot blah blah.
Out of touch with reality thinking he is mitch.
Also - there is reason he bonded with martin and marleau....he is desperate for a real father figure in his life. - Tumbleweed
That's a very good point. |

I think most people have problems with terms rather than final dollar figure. Again most commentators said they were a bit surprised by the term. |

That's such a tiring narrative. Dubas didn't cave on the Nylander deal, or the Matthews deal and is signing both Kapanen and Johnsson to reasonable deals. Why do people think he caved. - PatC80

Hunter would’ve signed Ennis a year prior, cheaper too. |

Only saying it cause that's what they want it to be. Fits their narrative. They don't care that the facts don't support it. |

Pretty much every hockey commentators have said WN’s and AM’s contracts are very good for players, not so much for the team.
You must know something they don’t. Please enlighten me. - gamerdoc
Good. Best not to think for yourself and listen to the guys who weren't good enough to be management instead. |

I guess it's just unfortunate that he wasn't gonna sign then. Because he and his agent made it abundantly clear that they weren't gonna sign until after both Bill Ny and Matthews. |

What, 6 years was bad?
And commentators have told me all year every Leafs RFA is leaving by offersheet. What do they know? |

Meh, it's not like all the other RFAs have signed. That's what deadlines are for. I'm starting to suspect Leafs Nation might a tad hypervigilant. |

What. Who? Nobody saying these things.
The same people saying this stupid poop and the same ones saying MM should be signed for 13mil.

I guarantee that Marner's camp had an asking price last summer, and I also guarantee that that price was a lot less than what he's asking for now after the season he just had.
It's all hindsight, but the Leafs had a chance to get Marner for a steal... But they chose not to and here we are today.

I remember it the other way, Leafs offered that to Marner and, his camp said no. |

When the Leafs pay big $ it's for young superstars. Teams like the Isles, Vegas, Flyers are going to be in big doodoo signing avergae players to 6 million+ per. |
