It's incredible.
He did hire a woman, so proof positive he has no clue what he's doing. - burn
Max says Dubas hired her because of diversity, and should be fired for it. Everyone knows only old, white men can have positions in management. |

When the Leafs pay big $ it's for young superstars. Teams like the Isles, Vegas, Flyers are going to be in big doodoo signing avergae players to 6 million+ per. - RogerRoeper
William Karlsson is getting a great deal in Vegas. |

I guarantee that Marner's camp had an asking price last summer, and I also guarantee that that price was a lot less than what he's asking for now after the season he just had.
It's all hindsight, but the Leafs had a chance to get Marner for a steal... But they chose not to and here we are today. - As_I_See_It
#1 he said that he wanted to be the last of the 3 to sign
#2 yeah he would have had a number to sign. But what makes you think what his number was last year was fair for what he had done to that point. If he wanted 9mil that was a massive overpayment for what he was at that point. He is currently worth 9mil, why on earth would the leafs sign him last summer (as a 60pts winger) for 9mil? That's a massive overpayment.
It's not hindsight because it was never going to happen. He said it. He wanted to wait and bet on himself. The leafs would not have been offering close to 9 mil last summer. |

Who cares what he did 20 years ago. That doesn't help when he's (frank)ing poop up in the present. - burn
Remind you his team did better than dubas’ team this year in playoffs, against all odds.
Now whether NYI will do it again this year is not something I will bet on.
I am just weary of young super smart first time execs with fresh new approaches after AA debacle (blue jays). Granted, Dubas seems a lot more measured and methodical in his approach but AA was kinda like that until his job was on line. Then he just went all in, tomorrow be damned. That RAD for Syndergaard was only topped by the infamous Young trade as the worst trade in the franchise history. |

It's astounding.
The hell with the facts that it was a blind test, and he didn't know who it was that tested.
When he found out the applicant had a vagina he should have revoked the offer. |

Jokes aside, without their support, diversity is as a policy is dead on arrival.
One can wonder if a society is stronger when unity is emphasized over diversity but the current fad is all about diversity, especially in media and academia, it’s usually not heathy for your career to ask that kind of question out loud. |

Dubas is in over his head. He's paralyzed when it comes to making a hockey trade and his Cap management is brutal. Yes, Lou tied his hands with Marleau, but his trading for Muzin, giving up a first, didn't fix a problem. Dubas needed a top 4 right handed defender and all Muzin accomplished was pushing Dermott down to the 3rd pairing. There is only a couple of answers to redeem his shoddy work.
One is to let Marner walk, either taking an offer sheet, or trading him for a top end right shooting defenceman around the same age.
The other is to move Nylander for a top 4 right handed shooting defenceman, even if it means adding to achieve this goal of shoring up defensively. If Dubas takes this route, he'd better keep Zaitzev around to maintain a second right shot on the bottom pairing. Maybe Dubas should be talking with Buffalo about Rasmus Ristolainen.
Dubas put the team in Cap Hell by not going for it last season, while he had Cap room to play with. It really is ridiculous that he's forced to overpay his young stars without a playoff victory in their first 3 years of being in the playoffs. The Shanaplan was working brilliantly, until they decided to hire Superman, but ended up with Clark Kent. Dubas needs to either get a grip, or get out of the way. This may be Shanahan's first big mistake, since taking over this franchise. |

Remember that the overall approach has been build through the draft and develop, that's new for the Leafs but not radical. Shanahan does a good job staying in the background but the buck still stops with him. |

You lost me early on bud...Muzzin is a top 4 d-man. You just said so by stating all he did was move Dermott down to the bottom pairing.
If you recall, everyone was saying the price to acquire a top 4 defenseman at the trade deadline was extremely high. It's a good thing that Dubas didn't panic. |

I would love for Marner to be a Leaf for a long time, but if he's putting money first.. I'd rather Nylander and the cap space gained to balance out the rest of our roster. - PatC80
Matthews never put money first, at least, he didn't have to. You want what? Okay. And straight to free agency? Sure no problem. Try to stay healthy, but hey, whatever you want. |

Cap problems are a fact of life when you have a lot of elite players. The bad contracts were signed by Lou. It's really far too early to evaluate Dubas anyway. |

That’s the part I love. The part I’m not so sure about is his ability to instil a sense of common purpose in people, or plainly speaking, make players feel like they are a part of something great.
Perhaps this generation is not like that and it’s all about dollar figures for the sake of it... even though that extra half million wouldn’t improve their quality of life measurably. |

Muzin is a top 4 defender but it wasn't as necessary as an equally qualified right shooting defenseman. It doesn't fix the problem of giving Dermott top 4 minutes and giving him playoff experience. It forced a bottom paired partner, in Zaitzev to play top 4 minutes, being the only righty. Of course Gardiner played horseshoes and hand-grenades out there, for the second year in a row. Lets hope that Dubas doesn't get nostalgic for a return of Gardiner, now that he has a bit of Cap space to play with, after dealing Marleau and our 1st for next year. |
