Yes.

Before he is formally traded, he is Leafs property and any negotiated contract between Marner and another team is an "offer sheet".

- Aetherial

Well if this negotiation plays out for a while, It might well be "in season" before it's settled . Something his agent wanted no part of last year

If things don't work out well for Mitch and the Leafs, his dad better get the (frank) out of dodge cause his life will be a living hell anywhere he goes in Toronto.

That’s what he gets for being an idiot

He’s one of those crazy hockey dads you see at pee wee games but he somehow managed to find a way to do it the NHL.

He’s get traded before that happens.

There’s no (frank)ing around here....the Leafs can’t afford to give him 11 that’s all there is to it.

I hope he does get offer sheets. If anyone wants to give up 4 1st round picks you take that deal and like it.

If he *signs* an offer sheet for anything less than 10.5 I would match and immediately trade him.

This is pretty much what it comes down to. They literally cannot give him $11M per season.
Not figuratively or metaphorically. None of that. They actually cannot, without blowing stuff up.

For sure it's game over in TO if he signs an offer sheet. As with most teams and their stars , I suspect.

Either he wants to win here or go make a boat load of money.

Are you able to immediately trade a player you matched at offer sheet on? If a player signs an offer sheet and you match, are there any restrictions on trade? Or has he opened himself up for being traded right away to any team in the NHL?

Certainly Kappy had no plans to go down that road after Kyle touched on the offer sheets. Good on him. Leafs were the only team on his radar.

Apparently making $75 million coming off your entry level contract isn't good enough anymore. What a joke.

SAw some Youtube clips of him when Marner was a little kid.

He represents everything I despise about hockey culture in this country.

- Aetherial

Hasn't changed. Still sitting in the stands yelling to mitch that he should work harder/skate faster/shoot blah blah.

Out of touch with reality thinking he is mitch.

Also - there is reason he bonded with martin and marleau....he is desperate for a real father figure in his life.

I hope they sign him but if they can’t he will get a good return....I mean who knows maybe they can nab Duchene for 9.5 and trade Marner for picks.

Marner signing is the best case scenario but it has to make sense.

Most of those dads run their kids out of the game by 13.

Pretty crazy mitch made it inspite of him.

If you sign Duchene, you can trade Kadri for a d-man as well.
At the end of the day, I still cheer for the logo on the front, not the name on the back. If he's choosing money over a shot at the Cup as a Maple Leaf, see ya Mitch.

I would rather have Marner at 11 million than Nylander at 7.
- aminnes

One of those is market value and on is a mil overpayment and you picked the wrong one.

And instead of Duchesne, how about calling Panarin's agent this week for a chat? Maybe Kyle has.

I would love for Marner to be a Leaf for a long time, but if he's putting money first.. I'd rather Nylander and the cap space gained to balance out the rest of our roster.

Ap”paul”ing behaviour for sure...

Watch the hockey parents documentary when he drops f bombs at little Mitchy

- mr.sir

Wha...

Wow, that’s pretty messed up. Being a parent, cannot even imagine.

A sad thing is, he probably thinks it worked. He would say “look where Mitch is and how I would retire (with Mitch’s money)! You?”

Another proof that success in life has nothing to do with one’s character.

Sorry, it’s not even his own success!

Sign Duchene, and keep Kadri.

Duchene-Tavares-Kapanen
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Johnsson-Kadri-Moore/Brown
Marchment-Gauthier-Brown/Moore

(frank) Marner.
