While I would prefer to move beyond the ROR issue, I think we need to get this issue very clear. In Botterill's interview after the trade, he admitted that the club began discussing the move of ROR to STL at the deadline and the pieces of the agreement didn't come together until after the season was over.

He DID NOT orchestrate his way out of the team, the team decided to move on from him. I'm not sure why, and - in June 2019 - I don't really care anymore why they decided to move on. But I do care about deflating myths.

Why so definitive? They didn't need to room to offer sheet. Rumor is they are in on Panarin, that makes more sense to me.

So this is new news to me.

If a team gets a player through and offer sheet and there are (2) required picks of a specific round (like 1st round), the team can have an additional year to meet that requirement.

So if the team owed (2) 1sts , 2nd, 3rd (in the range $8,454,872-$10,568,589), the team has to give up next drafts 2nd and 3rd rounders, but would have (3) years to meet the (2) 1st rounders.

So if a team did this and then bombed out that year and had a high end 1st rounder, they could defer it a year, but then it would be (2) years in a row, no matter what.

Also, if they give up a 2020 1st, but then want to keep the 2021 1st, they can but then have to give the 2022 1st no matter what.

Interesting.

So from this, teams missing a 1st next year could still offer sheet a player over $8.4m (where the return is at least (2) 1st rounders).

Sabres would definitely NOT hgave Dahlin, but the Bill's would certainly have Mayfield instead of Allen.
