Marner > Matthews - Sabre_Tooth
Centers are always valued higher than wingers.
Put Marner with an average center and I'm not sure he has the same productivity. |

So based on these reported salaries, the NHL is going to fold in the next 3/5 years.
8mm a year for Tyler Myers.
So a 3rd pairing guys makes 8mm
2nd pairing make 11
Top pair make 14mm each. - ImThatGuy
Why? There's still a cap...

We talking just in general overall or who you would take on the Sabres?
Because paying 2 forwards 20M when we have 1 NHL qualified center seems about as smart as when BuffaloHardHat said that Mike Weber was our best defensemen. - JVince11

There is a new broadcasting deal up in a couple of years. It could help, or hurt the league.
NBC/SN doesn't seem to market the game well. Maybe the league has noticed and is going to seek a better avenue for their league |

As good as Marner is nobody is trading a franchise D for him. I don't see how they deal with this because they really can't get proper value back if they were to trade him. - Slump Buster
Supposedly, every team that has called Dubas about trading for Marner has been told that they will have to get him to sign an offer sheet to leave his favorite childhood team and give the 4 1st rounders and that they will not trade him unless their socks are blown off. They feel like they can come to a resolution to keep Marner in Toronto. |

The Leafs want the offer sheet, then they know where to go with him and Nylander. |

More power to them for thinking that.
I just don't see how it's feasible for them to make it all work and risking a valuable asset like Marner for 4 first rounders is going to be a tough pill to swallow. |

I agree... Teams still have to abide by the cap. The last lockout literally did NOTHING in terms of helping keep contracts under control. The only thing the last lockout really did to help contracts was give each team 2 buyouts to use and put limits on dead ending money to old players or whatever you want to call it.
As far as bankruptcy... I think some teams are just going to hit the floor and maybe a team or two might fail or have to relocate but those teams are already in trouble today with attendance such as Florida, Arizona, Carolina, Anaheim, etc. None of them are going to be handing out the dumb contracts. That's Philly, Pit, EDM, NYR, CHI, etc. who have the money to go to the cap limit every year. |

Well depending on which way you slice it... Sabres fans would probably knock eachother over in line to the fax machine if the 4 1sts were Mittlestadt, Nylander, Risto, and Zadarov.
But then you could get an ace in there and it be Eichel, Samson, or Dahlin. The difference is those guys were 2, 2, and 1st overall. Will adding Marner make your team be giving up 20-31 OA or top 10 picks still. That's the question. Is that the missing piece for your team? |

Then it'll have to be like the MLB did when their contracts got out of control even with no salary cap. They had absolute studs who signed for half of what some expected and you had Astros ace Kuechel and Red Sox champions closer Krimbrel not get signed until 3 months into the season. Some obvious guys like Machado and Harper still got paiddddd but they are young guys with proven records. It is the tweener guys that demanded too much that got blackballed to wait and take less. |

Are offer sheets always based on the 5 year rule? Like the 7 year contract is divided by 5 to get the actual salary number for compensation. Really what I am wanting to know is if you offered someone 3 years for $15m a year do they still divide the $45m by 5? |

MLB PA cried collusion. The NHL PA will do the same. With a work stoppage looming it could get ugly. |

Hard pass on both. Duchene is going to cost too much dough and it's not worth giving up what it would take to get Malkin. Our pipeline still pretty much stinks and we aren't winning the Cup in the next 3 years so it's a waste. Anders Lee or Dzingel is who I would be looking at. |

(frank) the pipeline anyway. We could be waiting forever for something useful to come out of it. We suck at drafting. Acquire real talent now |

I actually like the idea of bringing in some older guys for a year. We've got a wave of talent coming in a year or two - no need to bring in huge contracts now. |
