That's the point of the cap

It's supposed to make it so any team can win the Cup

The last thing the NHL needs is a super team like Golden State to happen

- Stripes77

Yea the NBA is struggling so much right now with ratings and such because of that, right? Who is saying super teams anyways?

Teams are basically having to gut themselves just to keep 2-3 players.

The NHL salary cap is 15mm lower than the NBA and you play 15 more players per game.

There is no reason the cap is where it is today. It needs to go up.

Unless we want every team to be .500, because that sounds fun.

Exactly. The salaries of star players and RFA's was too low for too long. There should be pressure on teams to keep things together. Better players should hit UFA and RFA's should be able to leverage offer sheets. It's great that some of these things are starting to fix themselves.

I’m sure all Sabres fans will feel the same way once they have to trade 2-3 pieces away for pennies on the dollar just to keep Dahlin.

not sure how high i'd go for a 27yr. old top-nine, 20-goal scorer with deficiencies on defense but $5m might be on the low side
- Michael Pachla

Considering the other deals in place, I'd probably extend to 5.25x4

Keeping the years at 4, 5 at the absolute top end, is more important than the AAV. God knows we could desperately use him

Easy, Malkin.

Duchene will have a brand new 8 year deal that’ll be worth around $10 mill Malkin has 3 years remaining and he’s making $9.5 mill and is all around more productive.

- Jammerz04[url]

Other than Risto or Mits we don't have anything that the Pens would want. They will want players and not picks. I bet we would have to send both to make it happen.

An NBA game is 48 mins long and their starters play 38 mins of those games...

Then you don’t sign dumb deals. Let all the other teams do it. When they can’t pay anyone else you can scoop up the remaining players on FA cheap.

Cap is fine. The superstars will get paid. It hurts the 4th line players. Teams will just not sign them for 2 million and pay their rookie 800k instead.

The teams that will suffer are the teams who pay okposo 6 million or Myers 7 million (reported).

I feel like that or a ROR/Kane/Bogo/Myers trade recap.

I was just looking at the hot topic guy from last year. Pacriottey. Getting that 5x7M from Vegas to score 22 goals and 40 points. Oh boy. That one is gonna age well.

Again that’s my point. They don’t play as Much as NBA star players you need to dispense the money better as it stands I two years after these next rounds of deals.

You are going to have 4 guys making 45mil of a 85 mm cap.

And you have to have a second line so that’s another 30mm for 4 more guys.

And a goalie at 4-5mil.

In two years after these next rounds of deals you have no money left.

9 players making 80mil

So you have 5 mil left for 11 players. Min league salary is what 750-850 with player bonus not included

There is not enough money to go around as currently constructed and it is going to be impossible to put a team together.

Mediocre players and making star player money.

No, No!
I was told on Friday that they need to go with a "screw the Cap" philosophy, and Cap be damned attitude.

Sign Duchene, Lee, Dzingle, trade for Subban ... let's go!!!

Philly traded Ryan Hartman to Dallas for Tyler Pitlick. one for one of guys underachieving going to fresh homes. I think that's a 3rd team for Pitlick and a 4th for Hartman already.

Just curious. Do these projections sound accurate if each progress as expected.

Dahlin 12-14
Reinhart 8.5 - 9.5
Montour - 6-8
Mitts -5-7

The NHL is a Mickey Mouse league when it comes to player movement.

And half the reason is the same, old school “hockey men” who recycle from team to team, and just want things status quo.

They need a lockout tbh
