For all intensive purposes, he could care less. It's a mute point. |

Classic Leafs fan valuation of their own players!
Nylander is a career .677/ppg player and over an 82 game season that extrapolates to
55 pts per season.
How the Frank do you guarantee minimum 70 pts?
He offers nothing but offence and at just under 7mm/year he bent the Leafs over. - DEDDIE
His age might have something to do with it. That and Matthews age. If I told you you start last season marner would get 90 plus points, you would have probably posted something similar.
Truthfully if be happy if he returns to 60 plus. |

Sure, reduce the offer sheet compensation structure to give RFA’s more negotiation leverage, but they’ll also need to remove the salary cap to make that work. Not happening. - As_I_See_It
5 year ELC, then direct to UFA. Problem solved.

RFA's coming off entry level deals should not have the power to come off their first contract and ask for 10 mil, unless your a generational talent, this has a huge effect on rising salaries currently happening, im not opposed to them getting paid but damn its getting out of control and we need to lose the 8 yr deal and do max 5. |

The PA would never bite on that one. The players have a big say in the process, too. |

GMs don't have to pay it. Restrictions on how much a person can earn are pretty backwards. Pro athletes have some of the worst labour rules and it's excused because of the obscene money they make. In almost any other profession the ways your opportunities are limited would land the league and individual owner's in court over every single player on every single thing. Collective bargaining is a sham but it's the best we currently have |

Not really, the current system has a 3 year ELC, followed by 4 years of RFA, followed by UFA. That suggestion eliminates RFA completely by adding 2 years to ELC and 2 to UFA. Teams would benefit because when they draft a player they are hard cost controlled for 5 years, instead of 3. Players would benefit as they become unrestricted free agents as early as 23 years of age. Big or small market is irrelevant, as there is a salary cap.
