I think it was Holland who said if you don’t worry about getting invited to a players’ daughters’ weddings, you will be a successful GM in NHL. I think he’s right and this is where Dubas has an issue. He just doesn’t seem to have a hard stance in him. |

No worries...his scoring numbers should be high too, due to the division he plays in. There are a lot of strong defensemen in the NCAA is all I was trying to point out. Last year alone there was Quinn Hughes, Adam Fox, Cale Makar, K'Andre Miller, Scott Perunovich, etc, etc. - RickJames77
Right. QOC is lower but he finished as the highest scoring D along with being a top 10 Hobey Baker finalist with Hughes, Fox, Makar etc.
I just think he's someone who's probably going to see time this season after a short Marlies visit. |

You hionestly think John Tavares is overpaid? Keep in mind, he was UFA - RogerRoeper
Hahahaha did you read what I wrote? I never said taveras or any player, I said that argument is lame and showed why with Tyler Myers |

Yeah but a franchise C vs a guy who has poor numbers for even a second=pairing D. |

That may be somewhat fair, tough to say.
Even still, I think for situations this significant, Shanahan is also involved. I am guessing he'll take a hard stance. |

Pretty obvious Shanahan and the whole upper management will be involved in the decision on Marner.
Whatever that decision may be. |

Schneider needs a new recipes. Last 3 years:
2.82 .908
2.93 .907
3.06 .903
with their goaltending as it stands now, they won't improve much.

never saw a goalie crash so bad.
by the way, i wonder whether anyone has done any analysis on #1 goalie vs backup goalie numbers on the same team.. - nj wasn't very good last season, with a very mediocre defense.
(kinkaid had better numbers previous season, but schneider was still good in playoffs). |

If NJ asks nicely, maybe we can give them Sparks? |

Plenty of teams looking for a good backup this year. The price might go up for them.
Habs are also looking for a more reliable one than Lindgren. |

Isn't Sparks just going to be demoted to AHL? |

I don't know how to feel about Schneider.
He went from one of the best in the NHL to a complete mess in such a short time.
Maybe he bounces back?
But it doesn't look good, you're right. - Scabeh
watched a few of the Devil's games towards the end of last season... Schneider seems to be getting back to what he was in previous years.
Goalies are such a flakey group ... guy fell off a cliff for sure - but I'm sure the dilemma is that he has had some very good high end periods of play in his career.
I would think the Canes or Florida should go after Schneider . |

I tend to keep my work and my personal life separate, so that if poop happens, my whole life isn't affected...I wouldn't invite my boss to my own wedding...and that's no offense to my boss either. |

This is a continuing narrative, but I'm not sold on it.
If Dubas was so soft, Nylander would be making $8.5m. Matthews would be making over $12m and Marner would be signed.
He is not alone. He also works with Brandon Pridham, for example, to try and establish an equitable cap salary based on comparables.
He doesn't come across as a class A a-hole, but he seems to be willing to negotiate to a fair deal. |

I'm sure the trolls are laughing, saying that Dubas needs to be tough as nails, like crafty old veteran Lou.
Except, you know, Lou didn't hold down salaries a single dollar in his time here in Toronto. |
