He also played 20+ minutes a night and was a reliable player. His stats probably dont look as good considering martin jones couldnt stop a beach ball. There is no mistake in playing a reliable veteran over hagg/morin

Tell me I’m misunderstanding this post.

So you’re telling me because Justin Braun played 20 minutes a game and Martin Jones is horrible, is why Justin Braun’s stats last season aren’t good at all?

Even his offensive stats, where Braun went from 33 points to 16? This isn’t forgetting that Braun has only reached 33 once in his career because he doesn’t bring much of any offense.

NJ gonna regret not trading for Niskanen and Braun. Will Butcher's development hindered since PK is not the 'mentoring type'.

- Tomahawk

I liked the idea of Subban here, but I don't know if you get full value for a $9m guy unless he's taking Ghost's spot on PP1. So if they get him, does that entail a trade of Ghost?

Niskanen and Braun are both guys who shouldn't see the ice on the PP.

There is always the option of changing the PP configuration and going with 2 defenseman on the point.

PK Subban + Carl Soderberg > Hayes, Niskanen, Braun.
- Tomahawk

And about 4 million cheaper too.

Say you are right. What would we have had to given up to get them? I think that Fletcher probably did investigate PK. But I bet the asking price was one he didn't want to pay, particularly as he was looking around to try and target people before the draft. So it's a combo of him going all in early and the asking price.

What NHL GM is going to have the smarts to remain patient and rob Vegas of a good player in a deal?

We know what the NJ gave up for him. I can't imagine he would balk at that price if he was interested in Subban.

I doubt it, he just needed to take the full cap. Why would they say no to us and yes to NJ?

So the most glaring hole on this team is a back up goalie. Who do you guys think that Fletch is targeting? I don't think Elliott is the answer anymore.

Morin was drafted 6 years ago and he's played 8 NHL games. When is he going to be a regular in the Flyers lineup? When he's 30?

I'll admit that this is certainly speculation on my part but I really believe that this is part of what happens when you put your GM in the position that Flyers management put Fletcher. They wanted an action GM to improve the team immediately. When that happens, you lose patience, rush to make moves and potentially lose out on better deals.

Flyers could have easily beat Santini + Davies + 2nd for Subban. Hagg would give NSH even more cap-space and a better defender than Santini. If they wanted C-grade forward prospect too, the Flyers have no shortage of those. The 2nd rounder is the one they used on Justin Braun.

Connauton + 3rd for Soderberg would have been even easier to beat. Just pick one of the cheap spare parts off the Flyers roster, and give em the 3rd that went to Justin Braun.

Flyers would still have Gudas as a trade chip, their 5th from the Hayes deal, and more present AND future cap-space.

Hindsight is 20/20, ofc.

Fletch was first off line, but it turns out he was running the wrong race.

Well we disagree about that. I don't think it was time.
- MJL

You don’t think of hextall was still here, he wouldn’t be making moves?

I am not saying the same moves but I think he would go after Hayes, he would have fired Hak and no I don’t think he would ever make the Braun trade, even if you had a gun to his head

You think because they signed Subban people are running out and becoming season ticket holders? Or even buying tickets? Not in big numbers they aren't.
When they won the lottery and drafted Hischier the building was still empty.

Big difference between a jack Hughes and PK then a Nico

Hard to say. I think there is a good chance that Hextall would've remained patient and wouldn't have traded for Hayes rights and would've fully explored the market, waiting for it to fully evolve and looked for a shorter term solution before making a move. However that is pure speculation on my part.

This is probably true. Though I think we can all agree he would have not made the Braun trade.

Normally a GM will let the head coach choose his assistants.

I think there's more of a consensus but I get what you're saying. I still think Hak could have used a good mentor on his staff.

The guy makes 3.8 million a year. Do you expect him to be putting up 40-50 points? You realize he’s not an offensive dman correct? He will play 20+ minutes a night against tough lineups and do well defensively. That is our biggest problem from last season, defensive zone lapses, not d men points
