You didn't get the point. - MJL
I got the point, most points aren't as mysterious as people think. But this is what your comment boils down to.
Any GM at any point can make a deal and then another can make a deal that is better. This isn't unique to the Flyers or their current situation.
Whether this is the case with what Fletcher has done so far is still just speculation but the same speculation could be made about any move any GM has made thus far.

Kind of like marrying your first match on Tinder, and then wondering how you missed out on all those keepers that your friends found on FarmersOnly.

Just feeling the need to point there has been a lot of disagreement in here today, but for the most part the debates have been civil and informative.
Good job all! Wish it could be like this all the time.

Based on your comments and reinforced with your post here. You didn't get the point. It's not about another GM making a better deal.
What is unique to the Flyers situation this off season?

Shea Weber offer sheet .... - daryl stanley
Just because we have a new GM and Ed Snider has passed away...... I wonder if the the supposed hard feelings in the league due to that offer sheet are still burning in a lot of other teams offices....this would not affect the Hayes deal, but other actual hockey trades, upping the ante on the Flyers part...?

Assuming our roster is pretty much a finished product, your guess on the flyers for next season
I say top 3 in Met, lose In game 6 of 2nd round
If there is a major change to roster we can re-visit |

Does this mean we have open competition for 1 spot?
#Flyers issue qualifying offers to Nicolas Aube-Kubel ($761,250), Travis Konecny ($874,125), Scott Laughton ($1,050,000) and Ivan Provorov ($874,125).
No QOs for Jacob Graves or Justin Bailey. |

I can't see them missing the playoffs this year..
They were not far off last year and on paper the roster is better, they should have a full year of Hart and you can expect an inevitable improvement in record that comes with an established and proven coach like AV.
If they miss the playoffs it should be viewed as a total failure for this team.

It would not be unheard of for a 20 year old goaltender to struggle.

I think more or less 3 teams from the Atlantic are basically a lock. I think BUF and FLA will be much improved when all is said and done. I think those are the 5 that make it out of that division.
Metro is harder to call, but I think the Caps and Pens will still be in the top-3. Canes I feel like are probably there with them with the way they play a modern game. Isles I'm not bullish on. Devils could surprise. Jackets probably step back a bit. Maybe the Flyers can slip into 4th in that mix. Maybe not, tho. |

Agreed and if that was the only thing they had going for them this year I would say they were really on the cusp of missing the playoffs....
I just feel that between the three things I listed the players hopefully attack this season and practice some extreme ownership of the failures over the past seasons.
All of that should put them in the playoffs.

The guy makes 3.8 million a year. Do you expect him to be putting up 40-50 points? You realize he’s not an offensive dman correct? He will play 20+ minutes a night against tough lineups and do well defensively. That is our biggest problem from last season, defensive zone lapses, not d men points - Richieattack18
The post you responded to would suggest that I’m we aware he’s not an offensive defenseman. What’s ridiculous is suggesting that the Sharks goaltender is the single reason why Braun had a bad season but he’s good because he played 20 minutes a game.
Justin Braun had a bad season last season. Something Bill has already pointed out himself. So tell me how Braun alone fixes our defensive lapses coming off a bad season himself?
When did the Philadelphia Flyers get known for great goaltending? |

I just disagree that the mandate to Fletcher made him rush anything is all. I think he went into the Hayes situation eyes wide open and fully aware of what the market would bear for a center of his capabilities. I think Nisk/Braun are relatively low risk attempts to solidify the D corps and don't pose any long term downsides for the team.
