They don't have a contract issue and a roster spot can be cleared by waiving and demoting. Comes completely off the cap.

They probably just did him a solid moving him to a crappier team that will use him

I look at the two rosters and I like the Flyers roster a lot better.

If I was Fletcher, I'd be on the phone talking to Vegas. They have to make some moves. I'd look into Erik Haula. He missed most of last year but had a real good year the season before. Probably get a busy signal or get put on hold.

I'd be interested. But they seem dead set on moving Miller.

Hartman not tendered by Dallas. So basically what Dallas got out of the trade is cap space.

It will be interesting to see what Hartman get's on the UFA market which could mean he still ends up in Dallas but obviously acquiring Hartman wasn't the point of the trade for them.

So the Stars thought so much of Pitlick they traded him for nothing but a million in cap space? Sounds like a winning player

Burns gets protected with zone starts. Braun and vlasic get hammered. I’m hoping Braun bounces back but niskanen and Braun are firmly on the back 9. After plenty of hard miles
- Just5

I think braun was fine last season, especially considering martin jones forgot how to play goalie last year

Expansion draft. Know what the cost was to get them to take Haula in the expansion draft? Alex Tuch

Yup. What I thought. How dumb does he look if he gives up assets to acquire him back ?

I have a gut feeling that Fletch is shopping one of JVR or Voracek, more likely JVR. They're just going to be too close to the cap when all is said and done.

Still gotta move a D man too unless they plan on sending Myers down, which I think would be a mistake.

- hereticpride

i'm down with either or being shopped can't keep depending on the same players and expect different results

I don't think that would be a factor. If you can take advantage of a team due to their cap situation, that wouldn't make a GM look dumb.

I agree with your first paragraph. I don't think the issue some have including myself is with his contract. More about what they gave up to get him and how it's just a stop gap solution that is going to take ice time away from a younger player.
- MJL

Well really the younger player(s) in question are Hagg and Morin. I think im over Hagg as I think we've seen over the last 2/3 years what type of player he is, but I do agree would like to see more of what Morin can offer. That said, I also think Morin could only benefit from another full year in the AHL, and see if he can again stay healthy. Braun's contract is up next year, which would not only be perfect to insert Morin if he is ready, but also with Morin's cap being what it is, it would help the overall cap situation of the team who needs to sign 3 very important RFA's.

For the record I have no issue with either the contract or what we gave up, as in hindsight we recouped the pick via another trade that I thought we made out like bandits in, and ended up with Brink on top of it all. I think Braun will go a long way in balancing out what Ghost or Myers (whoever he plays with) bring to a defensive pairing.

I think Morin is going to be with the Flyers all season. Recouping the 2nd round pick doesn't change that they gave up a 2nd and a 3rd as well as adding 1.9M of dead cap space in 20/21 to add Braun. Drafting Brink has zilch to do with Braun move. Speculation is that he'll play with Sanheim.

I would highly doubt they use Morin in a 7th d spot and not have him playing minutes in the A. I think he may be the first one called up, but shouldn't be up here wasting away in the press box, Hagg can do that. Unless of course someone of the top 6 is moved between now and then, then I'm not sure.

It doesn't change anything no, but if they didn't make the trade originally for Braun, I doubt they then try and get another second. The way I look at it, we traded Braun for 2 thirds, because in the end we only end up with one second (if we dont trade for Braun we have it, if we do trade for him, we trade back, then use a 3rd with whatever second we have, to trade up for Brink). The cap space is irrelevant to me as adding a player who I believe will help the entire d corps in general (in terms of where everyone slots, balancing out LH from RH, needing a vet who also has historically been good in his own zone) is worth the 1.9 million.

Also as an edit, i didnt mean Myers, I did mean Ghost and Sanheim, Id be happy with whoever they put him with, and the other would obviously play with Myers. I like the idea of a Provy Nisky top line.

Supposedly he's off-grid and still hasn't found out about the original trade...

It is very unlikely that Morin would clear waivers. That is why he is going to remain with the Flyers.

Trading for the 2nd round pick in the draft was to move up to pick a player they were targeting. You keep trying to link that to Braun. Nothing to do with it. You're trying to make a bad spin here. Having dead space on the cap is never irrelevant. Especially with the Flyers new desire to be a cap team. How long is it going to help them for? One year? That doesn't do enough to justify the dead cap space in a future season.

Well, Ryan, we have some news for you. You were traded to Dallas! Really, cool! They didn't tender you so now you're a free agent.

No Im doing none of the sort, you're missing my point, which is directly related to the cost of Braun. We traded a 2nd and 3rd. Correct. We then traded to re-acquire a 2nd, which only cost us an extra third to do so. So in the end, we traded Braun, as I see it, for 2 3rd's, which I think is more than fair of a trade.

And again, it can't be dead space if the player you acquired with the larger cap hit is viewed as a necessary part of the plan the GM is putting together. I said irrelevant, because no matter what Player X's cap hit is (in this case Braun) if he as viewed as a piece to the puzzle the GM is putting together, it doesn't matter, especially for a cap hit difference that is less than 2 mil a year.

Its also not dead cap space if the player is playing, dead cap space would be what we have with A Mac next year.

Outside of Hart, Id say Jones takes it.
