If I am offer sheeting anyone it is.

Ryan Murray
Charlie Mcavoy
Ivan Provorov

In that order.

Won’t cost as much and the cap won’t be as high.

blues get Ror and Bozak
win the cup

we hold onto our scrubs like they are 20 goal scorers

- homiedclown

That's not quite fair.... Sure they did sign ROR and Bozak but I don't think you can say they won a cup because of those acquisitions. They added Maroon too.

They had young prospects that really carried weight for them in the playoffs too like Schwartz, Dunn, Thomas, Sundzvist and even Barbashev & Edmundson. Not to mention Binnington carrying them from dead last in all of hockey with a 24-5 record and 1.89 GAA. They all matured and hit their stride this year which is what we are waiting for on our kids.

Not to mention they already had great vets in place like Tarasenko, Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester, and Schenn.

Doesn't extending a qualifying offer not actually mean the player is signed yet? Can't the player not agree to the QO and hope he gets an offer sheet or the team will trade him?

I thought I read you could push the compensation/ pick back one year.

Who the hell knows though.

Yes.

QO means they still have rights. If not qualified they simply become UFA.

No team is going to give up anything for Girgs/Larsson though.

This post deserves so much more credit.

Remember ROR was on the Blues when they were bad this season. Friends of mine were saying "oh HA HA the Blues got that locker room cancer and now look at them".... Then Binnington took off ....

Correct.

However this means that everyone acting as though we're DEFINITELY going into the season with these guys on the roster is overreacting for the sake of the drama.

Yes. extending a QO just means he is not a UFA. It means that now he can accept the offer or negotiate. They can also take the team to arbitration if no deal is agreed.

Assuming no further major moves, here's my lineup:

skinner -eichs - olofsson
sheary - rhino - tage/nylander
erod - mitts - tage/nylander
girgs - larry - okposo

If we don't bring in a 2C to bridge the gap until mitts is ready, rhino needs to be the guy IMO. I think he's ready to go back to C, certainly a better option at 2C then anyone else on the roster right now. In the perfect world we keep him with eichs/skins but we are not nearly deep enough to keep all that talent on the first line.

And if Botts can bring in one or 2 legit middle six wings, we won't be relying heavily on tage/nylander/VO to perform. But at some point we need to drop these guys in the water and see how they swim. Or outside shot someone we don't expect has a great summer/training camp and becomes a nice surprise for the middle six. Not banking on it, but it happens to other teams.

Should I hide now?

- Chris16

A lot better lineup than I posted earlier...I forgot about Olofsson. Nice job (considering the crap we've been dealt with).

But at the range those offers would be, I don't think we have the picks needed.
Make a trade to get our 3rd back from Carolina first, and then let the offer sheet speculation begin.

there is no reason to offer them all contracts

how does bringing back elie, girgens and larsson make this team better?

I will wait for any logical answer from anyone

I mean they are who they are

you do not need larsson, elie, wilson, girgens, and sobotka under contract for 2019-20

period

Also - wondering if I got this right - teams can trade RFA rights without an agreement in place. So if I'm a GM on another team and I want Larsson (why? I don't know) I could offer a 6th round pick for his rights and then negotiate a salary with him INSTEAD OF going the route of an offer sheet for him. Am I wrong about this?

if the last 15 games meant something, who knows how it would have shaken out
- homiedclown

Or maybe we just miss, win the lottery and are watching the Leafs draft Kakko, with 3 more 1sts yet to go...

Agree to disagree. I think and also hope that Botts can make some changes to this roster in the next couple weeks that help us immediately.

Jesus Mary and Joseph could you imagine this place if the Blues would have finished 31OA or even just bottom 5. People in here would be naming their children Jason or their dogs would be Botts... It'd be an Avalanche getting 3rd for Duchene a year later. There would be people having custom Sabres jerseys (from China of course) with Botterill on the name plate.

On January 3rd... the Sabres were in position to get Hughes with that pick.

You are correct. Happens every year. Just happened with Kevin Hayes and Jacob Trouba.

Both UFA and RFA rights can be traded. Sign and trades are not common in the NHL unless they want that extra year.

That is correct. HAS to be your team's picks.

We would have to trade the 2021 STL 2nd rounder to get our 3rd back from Carolina.

Yep, I had friends floating that to me as well. Can't say I didn't buy into it a little bit but its pretty funny how that was true in January but in July I'm hearing things like "ownership shouldn't allow Botterill to make another trade".

If you get your own pick back after it has been traded it can still be used for offer sheet compensation.

I would prefer this, it's doable.

Edit: I'd swap MJ for Dzingel, Pavelski (if short term) or 1 year of Spezza.
