PK Subban would have been great here I have no doubts. He is still a good d-man and after this year there is 40 something available in cap space and you have Risto and Dahlin signed as your only D-men past this upcoming year.
This team needs to explore and do whatever it takes to be relevant.
I think people are forgetting this is the “Golden season, 50 years” with how Mich they are pumping that, there is a ton of pressure for this team to be not only good, but competing for playoffs good. - ImThatGuy
Agreed that I wouldn't have minded grabbing PK up for peanuts like NJ did, but I still think for us to be aggressive signing people moving forward we couldn't afford to give him 9M. If this all works out, Dahlin, Mitts and Reinhart are going to be significantly more expensive soon. That's a reason to push the envelop now, but also to think about our cap hits 3 years out.
I agree we should be "going for it" more than years past. Only two things I'm sure of is that 1) we're going to make changes and we should wait until mid July to start the "sky is falling" chants 2) The Golden Season isn't a reason to sell the future off, if we do an offer sheet for (4) 1sts, we will live to regret doing so.
Haula, I agree, would have been a solid addition. PK, same just too expensive. I would have passed as Botts did on Miller and Trouba wouldn't sign. Other than that I'm not sure we missed out on anything yet. 2 trades won't get me to the bridges edge, not yet. |

Maybe, maybe not. Donskoi for around 4M if we can get him would be around the same production. I don't think Haula will be the best player traded off of Vegas either. There are many avenues to success (or failure) and I just don't think Haula is the guy that will push it one way or the other. You are free to disagree. - SDSabre
Donskoi is going to get paid, I fully believe that. I do not want another Okposo contract.
I think you are looking at 5+ for him. Closer to 6. |

Can this be true? I just overheard people say that teams are only offering mid round picks for Risto? I don't know where they heard it, I just overheard them saying it. No wonder he hasn't been moved. Seems teams are looking to take advantage of us the way St. Louis did with the O'Reilly trade. How can we be 8 years removed from the playoffs and possess arguably the worst depth in the entire league? - hawk33

That's why I said 4. If not, he's free to look around. I guess I don't know why everyone thinks that. He's a decent player, good middle six guys, but put up 35ish points a year. I agree, no more Okposo's. Just curious why your upset then about not getting Haula, who will be also commanding that same price (probably more) in a year. |

Because he doesn’t cost that now and the Sabres need more than just 1 guy.
The inactivity is frustrating and worrisome to me at least.

No thanks, it took Toronto a first round pick to unload Marleau.
Sabres need a good return if taking Clarkson. |

Analogy time: Your a fantasy football team owner. You make a "trade in principle" with someone. Do you check with the other 7 teams in your league EVERYTIME to see if you can get a better deal. I mean, after all, it's literally your job to make your team the best it can. Doubt you do, I know I don't. If you like the compensation that you are receiving, you pull the trigger. I'm guessing the other GM wouldn't like to hear "hey, sounds like we have a deal. Hold on for a couple hours/days while I call and negotiate with the other 29 clubs" It just doesn't happen bud. - SDSabre
Analogy time: I don't get paid millions of dollars to run my fantasy football team. GTFO with that. |

I think there is a difference - Clarkson doesn't count toward your cap they way that Marleau does once bought out |

Hurricanes will buy out Marleau, Don Waddell said. Owe him his $3 million signing bonus now and $833,333 split over the next two years. |

He's not, but he is a nice depth piece and it takes some pressure off the top of your lineup to produce when the bottom half can do it with regularity. |

No but neither do your counterparts, whilst every other GM gets paid according as well. |
