"If Haula takes a poop in the middle of the locker room floor, and the janitor cleans it up within 15 minutes, Vegas gets a 5th round pick.

If he merely urinates in the middle of the locker room floor, but cleans it up himself, Vegas would also get a 5th round pick.

Otherwise, no pick."

- buffalofan19

I heard it was only going to vegas if Buffalo trades another conn smythe winner this year.

Can Ryan Murray, Andrew Copp, Alex Iafallo, Alex Kerfoot, Anthony Beauvillier, Kevin Fiala, Kasperi Kapanen or Jakub Vrana, be had for 2nd round compensation, which is up to $4,227,437?

I could see the Sabres signing zuccarello for 5 x 6 million

Heard the rangers are out

- Boss34

He wants 5 years. Rangers don't want that commitment.

He'll help the 2nd line in the short term for sure.

Point, but I got blasted for it the other night.
- SABRES 89

I'm going to use recent draft history for this. Would you trade:

Cozens, Dahlin, Mittelstadt and Nylander for Point?

Or, Dahlin, Reinhart, Eichel and Mittelstadt for him?

It's an honest question.

If you have Eichel, Point and Dahlin, the draft picks would be more like Zadorov, Risto, Ennis and Cozens. And potentially (probably) one of those is actually a Grigorenko

Think of it like this, if you will:

We had 2 1sts this year, so if you gave up 4 for point, he's the equivalent of getting something for 1 of those firsts. So it's like having 3 firsts in 5 years. Idk if any of that math makes sense

If the Sabres win, and don't have a first round pick for 8 years (like Pittsburgh), I wouldn't lose sleep. Give me two potential 80-100 point centers in Eichel and Point.

PP1:
Sam in front
Skinner Wall
Point Center
Jack Left Point
Dahlin Right Point

I'd gladly take that every day, and 43 times on Sunday.

And paying 30 million for Skinner, Eichel, and Point is not my problem to figure out for the future and likely not Botterill's, so swing for the fences.

Well that's the gamble here now isn't it.

Absolutely. Since it needs to be your own 1st, it's 4 years in a row. If the Sabres are ass for the next, let's say 2, and they end up like Ottawa... you lose out on Dahlin/Svech, Turcotte/Byram, Pettersson/Makar and Tkachuk/Keller

That would suck ass. You'd have to shift into overdrive to ensure your team doesn't suck.

The most severe risk (imo) would be year 1. You're right about needing probably one other move to prevent that

By year two, maybe 3 at the latest, you're looking at

Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Mitts-Point-Cozens

And that's not gonna be a bottom feeding top-6

I'm fine with buying a few guys July 1st.

1 forward and 1 defenseman

Just pay the buffatax

As badass as a top 6 that has the potential of being, our defense is still a wasteland. I expect it to be fixed as well as improved under Ralph, but we're working with a lot of guys who are just... soul sucking. If I was the Blues, the Flyers, a playoff team with a great pool of prospects, I'd unload those 1sts without question.

I just have trouble with the bring in talent at any cost. I want the Sabres to be good so bad. But if one single guy can't turn the franchise around (he can't on his own) then we're sitting here with our thumbs in our ass asking each other why we still suck, and don't get another top tier talent for the next 4 years.

Imagine if we sent an offer sheet to, I dunno, let's say Claude Giroux in 2015. We'd have Claude on a 9 some million contract, but we don't have Dahlin, Nylander(lol), Mittelstadt or Cozens. This defense would be even more of a joke and a hopeless pile of poop without Dahlin. But hey, at least we have 2 good centers.

Why does it matter
- SABRES 89

I'm pretty sure it matters a lot when you're trying to win.

The impact of Eichel, Reinhart, Mittelstadt and Dahlin severely outweigh the impact of Point. Over the course of their careers.

Point is a phenomenal player. If you're not picking top 5, 8 like the Sabres do every year, then you spring for Point.

The talent is just too good at the top of the draft for a bad team to throw it's picks away. IMO I guess.

Salary cap league,

I just traded Crosby (PIT-C) 9.5/9.5/9.5

for

Mika Zibanejad (NYR-C) 5.0/6.0
pick 19
and a 2020 1st round pick (should be somewhere between 4-8 next year)

I have eichel (on ELC), matthews(on ELC), p kane, and Ovechkin, I needed to clear up some space.

Add Point to this team and at worst they're drafting 10-15 next season

Only risk there is winning the lotto and losing a top 3 pick that is cost controlled that should be a stud.

However if you add Point and get a guy like Miller to help on the blue line I think you swing for the fences and do it.

Just know that Dahlin would probably be thrown an offer sheet if he isn't signed by July 1st

I don't care about any of that and it doesn't matter, we have Eichel, Dahlin, Reinhart and others already problem is, they are wasting away because we can't move forward, it's always back. So it doesn't matter, the goal right now going forward is get better and we can't do that unless we can get better players on this team, so screw the picks and prospects, go after a solid player or 2 and move this forward.

Did you consult with other GMs to try to get a better deal before pulling the trigger?

And I'm aware those guys were drafted in the past and not the future, like the picks Point would consume.

But our prospect talent pool doesn't have much high end skill. Something that is absolutely sorely needed here. I dunno

Just get someone good please.

I would use 1 or 2 1st round picks to do that w/o the offer sheet. That I would do.

Since you can defer one of the first rounders, but have to give consecutive 1sts after that, I certainly would take the risk.

If I have 5 years to fulfill, and the team misses the playoffs this year, you can defer the pick.

In theory, they should be contending the next 4 after that and the pick is non-consequential.
