And I'm aware those guys were drafted in the past and not the future, like the picks Point would consume.
But our prospect talent pool doesn't have much high end skill. Something that is absolutely sorely needed here. I dunno
Just get someone good please. - TheSabresTaco
At some point your core gets to critical mass and is self sustaining, like Pittsburgh. They never pick in the first round.
Eichel, Dahlin, Point, Skinner and Cozens/Mitts is self sustaining
Imagine rolling 3 or even 4 deep with those centers

If Botts would bet his life that we're in the playoffs at most after this upcoming season, then yeah. Do it. Can he make that bet? - TheSabresTaco
If he can't, he shouldn't be the GM.
A blind squirrel can find a nut, and he seems smart enough to know what to do. |

Can this be true? I just overheard people say that teams are only offering mid round picks for Risto? I don't know where they heard it, I just overheard them saying it. No wonder he hasn't been moved. Seems teams are looking to take advantage of us the way St. Louis did with the O'Reilly trade. How can we be 8 years removed from the playoffs and possess arguably the worst depth in the entire league? - hawk33
Terrible takes Hall of Fame quality right here. |

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Thursday that it's unlikely that Giancarlo Stanton will be back in July.
Did this ever escalate quickly. Stanton was diagnosed with a PCL sprain in his right knee on Wednesday, and he went from day-to-day to the current prognosis that has him not able to return until after the trade deadline. Because of his injuries, Stanton has only played in nine games for New York this season. A brutal loss for the Yankees and fantasy owners.
Gee, you don't say - SABRES 89
Eff him.
They're winning without him. |

Since you can defer one of the first rounders, but have to give consecutive 1sts after that, I certainly would take the risk.
If I have 5 years to fulfill, and the team misses the playoffs this year, you can defer the pick.
In theory, they should be contending the next 4 after that and the pick is non-consequential. - thatsapickle
The kicker. Put like that, he needs to in a place where he knows we're good enough. |

If Cozens is your 4th line Center, you're living on top of the world.
Eichel
Point
Mitts
Cozens
That's 4 solid foundations to each line. You should get massive production out of each line regardless of who is riding shotgun. In this fantasy, you're more likely to see Cozens or Mitts on the wing with one of the other centers, and you have an E-Rod/Asplund/Larsson in there as the true 4th line center. |

There are? Who are these potential 60 point players that are available as a cap dump?
Haulas 55 points before his injury would have been 4th on the Sabres last year.
He’s better than you are giving him credit for. - ImThatGuy
Potential 60 point player? Dude has one season over 35 and is turning 29 coming off a major knee injury. I get getting him for nothing would have been ideal to you, and very acceptable to me. I'm just not gonna lose any sleep over it. And as for the other post directed at me, I'm on the Ehlers train if we can get him. |

Can Ryan Murray, Andrew Copp, Alex Iafallo, Alex Kerfoot, Anthony Beauvillier, Kevin Fiala, Kasperi Kapanen or Jakub Vrana, be had for 2nd round compensation, which is up to $4,227,437? - TheSabresTaco

He honestly shouldn't be GM if he can't make the moves. If you know you get to defer a year, then you should be pretty certain you can contend. Defer your pick if you're in the lottery and win a top three spot, and make the finishing touches after that.
Then you pressure yourself to lock up Dahlin before he gets to RFA status so no one jumps you into a 15M offer sheet, and you figure the rest out. |

Lets be honest, this next year isnt the year.
EVERYONE comes off the books next summer not including Eichs, Skinner, Okposo, Dahlin, Hutton.
Look at how valuable cap space has been for teams that have it. Other teams are going to be cash strapped next year as well. Botts can use that to his advantage to acquire real talent. Cap space has never been more valuable than now and moving forward with the projections of next year's cap rise being minimal as well.
I know it sounds miserable but the moves that will be made this offseason will be underwhelming and for a specific reason.
I don't see us being anything other than a bubble team at most. |

Yep. I'd take it too. But that franchise has been mismanaged for years. Their prospect pool is reminiscent of the sound a conch shell makes when held to your ear. And by prospect, I mean players under 24 years old. |

I'll rephrase.
They've dumped a poop load of high end picks for a trio of cups, then, started bringing in bad trades and UFAs. |

Ek says "
Matthew Tkachuk Deal Sticky...
One of the least discussed RFA's (for his worth) is Matthew Tkachuk...I have heard teams are very interested in trading for Tkachuk...especially Ottawa"
Did you guys realize that teams want to trade for Matt Tkachuk?
