Laine v Connor is a bullsh_t discussion - we want both

Issue is - and I finally did the math (my bad for taking so long) - there's not enough cap ... we're not going to sign FA's to fill in for these two for any less than what we may have to pay them ... there "may" be a trade out there to get at or near performance for them but I haven't seen it yet ... and - we may not have enough cap to sign both these guys anyway without shedding even more contracts from the existing roster

Remember when Chipper said we were't gonna be a top spending team ? ... we are a top spending team

Dire straights, man, and I don't mean the band ... could the best route for Chevy be going to arbitration on both these guys and signing them to bridge deals ?

I howled when Chevy went out and signed Chibisov and Luoto ... now it's not so funny - they may be playing

So here's a question for us - how many ELC players (or cheap contract players) will Chevy want PoMo to start in order to keep Laine & Connor and adhere to cap ?

- - - 4 ? 5 ? 6 ?

Let's see: Roslo, Vesalainen, Appleton, Gustafsson, Niku, Poolman, Nogier ?

Haven't done my new lines & pairings but this is a start ...

- CorydonKeith

Gustafsson isn’t ready yet, Vesalainen won’t get any playing time which will tank his development and piss him off, and Nogier is a 7D in the AHL

Well probably lose a trade or two before then and now. Then you have to add in some Maurice f**kery, and you’ve got the final disappointment

The Maurice lineup is pretty much set.

Conner-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Little-Laine
Roslovic-Lowry-Perreault
Vesalainen-Copp-Appleton

Poolman-Byfuglien
Morrissey-Pionk
Kulikov-Niku

The only changes the Jets might make is dump Kulikov and find 2 d-man that they can get for combined 4 million, and/or trade Perreault if more cap space is needed.

Rexy-man ! ... what's the choice ? ... I don't think we have a choice ! ... it's CAP-CRUNCH !!

My post wasn't about who's ready - my post was about options ... what option do we have if we sign Laine and Connor even to reasonable $$ bridge contracts ?!?

That lineup is both exactly what Maurice would do, AND missing the playoffs

BWJ, as much as it pains me to say this, your accuracy for predictions has been spot on.

I would also prefer that you call Poolman "the messiah", as people on this board have made it sound like he's the second coming of Bobby Orr.

Literally nobody has said anything other than he’s better than Myers, Chiarot, Kulikov, and Morrow (love bar), and has had a solid showing in his few NHL games.

Should be a great 3rd pairing guy.

I'm pretty confident that they will be signed and in the lineup October 3.

I do agree with you on the Jets depth issues. Right now Chibisov is 13th man and depending on how camp goes Suess might be the second spare. On defense they got nothing except hope Stanley is ready, so they probably look for a cheap veteran.

Every year smart teams pick up players in September for league minimum salaries. These same players are as good if not better than guys that will sign in July. See Tanev and Chairot!!! #letthemwalk

The RFA offer no team wants to see their player sign is the 5 year deal at 10.5 per, because the cost is only a first, second and third round pick. But if some team is dumb enough to overpay Connor this, I take the picks and run to offer werenski, mcavoy, Marner, Aho, Tkachuk, Rantanen, point and even provorov the exact deal. All better than Connor

I like both those players, but if they want too much. Move on.
one defenceman that might surprise everyone this year. Nelson Nogier and maybe Logan Stanley

Nogier can surprise me by being an AHL player first

It would be good to see how some of the Jets draft and develop players do if given a chance on the Jets. Poolman, Niku, Ves, Appleton and even Stanley might be a pleasant surprise. Remember both Scheifele and Connor only got a chance to play on the top line after Maurice was forced to because of injuries. Whats the use of a draft and develop philosophy if you don't play the players when they're ready.

Don’t forget the injury related promotions for Ehlers, Morrissey, and Trouba at different times, too

Actually it's two 1st's, a 2nd and a 3rd for $10.5 - Let him take a hike. Too may $$$ for what I've seen thus far. Maybe different in two years, who knows? Bridge deal now if anything - we'll see later.
No offer sheet, I smell a holdout this fall.
Having said that,. I think Chevy would match.
