It is a horrible contract, but the cap isn't an issue for at least a couple years so they can do it at that time if necessary. If we gave up a first then we'd be complaining about no depth like some do about Murray lol. Okposo can still score 15-20 goals, some here act like he's Lucic

The cap is limiting what we can do right now. It would be a struggle to fit a top tier UFA in.

It might not happen for a couple days though, especially because Zaitsev's bonus is paid on July 1, so the Senators would probably insist on waiting until after the Leafs cover that. The Leafs paying that money would likely make sense for both sides because Ottawa presumably cares more about saving money than the cap ceiling while Toronto is more focused on cap savings. Pending RFA Cody Ceci might be heading to Toronto in the exchange
