Absolutely. That's why I was hoping the Leafs didn't blow their loads and trade picks/prospects until the year after this one coming.
Oh well it's done now. We'll see our limitations fairly soon - walshyleafsfan
For the first time in a long time they have big chips they could trade to balance the club out and get better, but it seems they have fallen in love with their own guys again.
As far as next year goes, the NHL has a limited revenue. It is growing but slowing down, and even next year the cap doesn't project to be going up much at all. Usually it grows in single digits and less than 5%. So the Leafs will have a tough time getting better even next season if they are unwilling to trade. |

It grew by 4.4% this year, but they rolled it back to 2.5% in order to reduce the amount of escrow the players are playing. They expect a similar pattern next year, before a larger growth expectation in 2021 which would also see the concessions for escrow revenues relaxed, which would mean that the retained 5% of so would flow back in.
Basically, I think we're looking at a modest 2 million growth again next year and then possibly up to a $10 million bump in 2021 when they stop reclaiming revenue for escrow relief. |

This is what a cap crunch does.
Stars and plugs lead to, well, plugs - walshyleafsfan
He won’t be seeing much games that’s forsure, league minimum. Could go to the AHL and stay there too |

Yeah I tend to agree with this. They either need to absolutely nail the draft (when they have 1st round picks again) or move a big gun. With current players contracts needing renewing over the next few years (presumably with a raise) I don't know how they get their D up to snuff another way |

So maybe in 2 years they might have enough to cap space to maybe get better. |

I think that is probably a good hire. I know that he epically failed in Philly. But he has pedigree before that little blip. Maybe he just wasn't quite ready to NHL yet. This is my hope anyway.

When they signed JT they gave themselves a huge opportunity to trade someone. They got him for nothing. That could be parlayed into big time defensive help, but as it stands it appears they are going to roll with one of the top forward groups and one of the worst defensive groups in the league. Unless they have something up their sleeve that is. |

FFSakes.... I'm seriously gonna
WTF is this poop. I'm seriously in the belief now Gardiner will be resigned and no trades will be done going forward. Why (frank)ing Marincin, how do they not see how much of a waste of a roster spot he is... (frank) me sideways |

No choice. If the aren't willing to trade someone they will roll with bargain basement guys on defence. |

League minimum for an 8th dude. Not sure why you’re losing sleep over it. Any other 700k guy is just as bad. Devil you know... |

Then it is probably better to give that ice time to a young developing player. Which makes one wonder if they have so many spots to fill that the young talent is already pencilled in, and Marincin will have as big a role or bigger than an 8th guy. Heck he was higher than that last season. |

Not sure but just 3 months ago the Leafs had no cap issues according to hockey buzz experts. |
