He got the job through nepotism. He quit hockey at 14. Was a stick boy for grandpa. The Soo improved but were never spectacular when he was there. He does;'t have NHL success. On the one hand, let's wait and see before we bash him, on the other let's not anoint him and assume critics of him are simply jealous. - aminnes
You are missing the point. He started from the ground up at 14. That’s when he started.
And it’s sad but true. I see it in my career. I own a business in the trades. My top journeyman started at 17 and he’s 27. I have 30 year old apprentices and they don’t like seeing a 27 year old so successful.
The reality is there are many people out there not giving him a chance already because of his age. I’ve learned in my years that age is a number and there are plenty of melenials out there that worked their ass off to get where they are at a young age but still get disrespected.
It’s all jealousy and Dubas is smart enough to just laugh at people like this. |

Make stuff up to degrade him. Spectacular.
Tells everyone to lay off anointing him, but yeah let’s make stuff up to knock him down. |

Yeah he seems to be talking in circles.
I probably shouldn’t be assuming he’s jealous but I’ve just seen it way too much it’s hard not to.
He’s already bashing how he got into the business. Another thing jealous people like to do.

Dubas didn’t earn anything, all given to him. But when he got there it didn’t go up in flames, so maybe he knows how to do it?
Meanwhile hunter bought a team and made himself gm. But he earned it.
Age thing. |

I haven’t even thought about hiring some of these 40+ people many of them are lazy and think they don’t have to do anything anymore. I know the hockey world is waaaay different.
20-35. Generally I find these are the most hungry people out there to work hard. |

Seems like nothing more than ‘I don’t like young guy with hipster glasses running my team’ - burn

You are stereotyping.
It seems obvious to me. You don’t like having someone so young and successful running a hockey team.
A lot of people are jealous of him...I see it a lot with people I talk to. Making fun of his glasses, his experience....which funny enough he’s had tons of management experience. A lot more than these former players of the game that become managers.
He’s been at it since he was 14.
He’s a pretty impressive individual and I find it ironic the same people hating on him being a new GM hated on Lou and he’s had decades of NHL experience. - Santo_44
Did I say anything about NOT liking how he is running the team?? You came to that conclusion from that? Ok. Not what I said or implied.
Im not making fun of him or nor am I jealous of him, in fact the opposite. Thats a pretty big thing to be named GM of one of the biggest teams in the NHL an original 6 no less and was mentored by uncle Lou.
As for my "stereo" type, meh. We live in a overly politically correct time now so Im not surprised you would say somethig like that. But I call things how I see it and I know Im not alone in my thoughts in that with other folks my age or older and in managment positions.

For being a GM at the NHL level. And yeah age thing. Thats a fact of life. I never said he was incapable of being a GM, nor did I say he was a bad GM. But he will do things that a vet GM probably wouldnt do, which will come with experience at the NHL LEVEL which naturally comes with age as the longer you do something you get older.

Can you re read your comment?
You said he takes a buddy approach with negotiations. And you also said you don’t know and was just speculating...
So you call that how you see it huh? Where do you see it? You don’t and you admitted you don’t.
Then you go on and call melenials greedy and put Dubas into that category
You are pulling poop out of your ass to hate on Dubas. It seems pretty obvious to me. “Speculation” |

What are these “things” that dubas does that a vet GM wouldn’t do?
And age is a number man...you seem to be a type to discriminate because of age. In my experience as I mentioned above age has nothing to do with it. I’ve seen lazy 20 year olds and I’ve seen lazy 40 year olds who have been in the business 20 years.
My main guy is 27. He knows more and is a better worker than anyone else. You can do 20 years worth of work in 5 years or 5 years worth of work in 20 years. Age has nothing to do with it. |

Right now it’s (frank)ing June and there are no games. Give the GM until September to round out the roster before you freak out over the opening night roster.
He’s going to be the defenseman in the press box every night. Every team has one, and I’d rather it be a guy who we know stinks than a guy who could be getting better with icetime. |

saying having experience [as an NHL gm] doesn't make a difference is an ignorant comment.
there are hundreds of things that make a difference, experience is one - one could argue about the relative importance. |

No one is saying that....
What people are saying is doubting someone’s ability because of age is ignorant.

I think* that his point might be that Dubas is not bad at his job, it's that the other "old boys club" is trying their best as a whole to prey on him as he is a "novice." Hoping to prey on his inexperience and gain advantages that years of clubbing and wine and dines are not afforded to him vs...say a Jim Rutherford (the patriarch of old boys club) - AdamFrench

i have yet to see a poster saying that Dubas isn't fit because of his age.
i think all comments are linked to his lack of NHL gm experience.. (?)
correct me if i'm wrong. |
