Is Marner signed yet?

Petrovic for under 1 mil would be serviceable as a7/6 flip with holl.

Trade nylander and zaitsev for Manson and whatever young controllable player that can be had ie jones comtios or a right handed center in Sherwood. Can pay marner $10 mil if need be hopefully for 6 years and have 3 years of a cheap top pair before having to seriously retool.

After years of god awful management I think you guys are just jaded.

Dubas has not been perfect as the Leafs GM, but overall he has a very good track record thus far and has been way better than anything this team has has in decades.

What are his major blunders?

I would have liked to see Matthews signed for 6 years, not five, to facilitate resigning him as his contract would be ending the same year as Tavares.

I would have liked him to trade Nylander as soon as he signed him to send a message to the young guys looking at their next contracts.

On the positive side, he signed the best UFA this team has seen in decades for less than what he could have gotten elsewhere. I don’t care what anyone says, if you get a chance to add a Tavares in his prime to your team you do it and worry about the cap ramifications later. Now, it’s later, and he’s dealing with it. Paid the necessary price to fix a mistake made by his predecessor, and did so in a classy way that allowed Marleau to go home with his family. Immediately used that cap space to sign Kapanen and Johnsson to good deals that protect them (the most likely targets) for offer sheets. He also added a top-4 d in Muzzin with term at the deadline.

Give him the summer before you judge what the team is going to look like on opening night. The Leafs have a bevy of talent at forward that can be traded for help on defence. The Leafs are always going to be tight against the cap; at least it’s bot going to be because we spent a bunch of $$ on the David Clarkson’s of the world.

Spending money on star quality players is not a problem.
