I disagree it looks bad right now. - classic321
Can we add NEUROTIC to our buzzwords.
Does that describe well what is yet to happen & go off the cliff now? Lol |

It will be worse than LE, even if the cap rises 6 mil, that’s 6 mil you could use on someone that’s worth it. - pker2theend
Paying for RHD comes at a cost when not enough to go around. A $6m bust Winger is an anchor. Until we face cap problems it’s moot. LE is far the worst problem atm. |

There is 1-2 on each team, but I can count 5 on ours. |

UFA signings requires perspective...
$6m for LE is an epic fail
$3m signings are liveable
$1.9m is fodder |

True but many teams carry non-ufa contracts that suck. |

When it comes to contracts it’s not only the $ value. % of the cap is a better gauge imo. Going forward it applies much better.
Teams that project the cap rising better & manage their cap accordingly get a leg up. |

players work to get to ufa status to get security for life, gms fork out the money its the way it is unfortunately. Some are worth it but not many. |

When they are basically 28yrs old going into UFA status it’s a mine field where in the end they become a cap drag. Now with more RFA’s wanting 5yrs it’s changing the face of negotiations. Stars are banking on health to hit a 2nd homerun. |

Despite the "epic fail" the fact that benning repeats his fails and doesnt learn is what is most concerning. People praising this because its 6 million instead of 7 or 7.5 from what was being rumored is just a ploy that agents/media do to drive up the price. This will be bad in year 2. I wont put the blame on myers, hes making bank and would be dumb not to sign, but benning is a complete idiot if he commits 5 or 6 years to a player, again, who is passed his prime. |

If we don't sign Myers and Benn, how do we improve this defense?

Who brought benn as a negative. If its 2 or 3 years at a reasonable cap hit, which us speculated, that's exactly that you should do with stop gap free agent signings. A past his prime myers for 6 years is literally doing exactly what we did with LE. What's different? |

Use 2nd pick for Collin Miller. Keep Ben Hutton (Benn is not an upgrade). See how OJ pans out. Wait until Barrie becomes a free agent, he wants to come back home...just a few things... |

So you'd just sign Benn and call it a day if you were a GM with 1 year left on his contract? |

I would sign free agents to 2 or 3 year max contracts at reasonable cap hits. Why are we repeating mistakes over and over again. Also, why do they have to be multi year contracts in order to sign them? |

Nothing to say VGK would deal Miller to us.
Hutton has yet to be signed & wasn’t a QO.
Benn is for temporary stability only.
OJ’s set back hurts but will happen.
Barrie is worth waiting for.
If we sign Myers it buys time & Tanev less needed. Not saying i will like the last 2-3yrs of his contract but its sufferable.
In the end this years D needs help. |

Then walk away. I'd rather give myers 2 years at 7.5 mill than give aging free agents term like we did with LE. Nothing is forcing us to overpay. |

Hockey has the strange anomaly of a disproportionate amount of lefties like no other sport. Puts a historic premium on RHD. |

Being creative is good 👍
Nothing is forced if a GM has the flexibility he created to use. Contract structures & staggering them is but only a few parts to building sustained growth & success. |
