Zuccarello just got 6m per for 5 years at 31 and he’s a lesser player so I disagree. Plus 3 years from now players will be making more, it always happens. So if you compare 7 at 8m = 56m vs 3 at 12m then 4 at 6m = 62m conservatively. So I say no fkn way he turned down 3 at 12.

Sure, but the $56M is guaranteed. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Players are risk averse. Why would you bet $20M that you'd be worth what you'd lose and then some in 3 years when you'll be at an age where players are usually out of the league all together and declining sharply if they are still in the league?

The gamble is the play style he employs, that his decline will not directly correlate with the dollars he makes.

Way I see it, if you need to overpay a guy by 1 or 2 mil, do it as long as they produce through the life of the contract.

If Skinner can still put up 50 points when he's 35, I'd say that's a major win for Buffalo.

I disagree with play style. He needs his speed. That will slow down and hurt his game. 4 of his 9 seasons he didn’t hit 50 pts, I can’t imagine he will his last 4 years of deal either
