Jan Levine: Rangers 2019 free agency primer: if not Panarin, then what? How high is too high of an AAV to land the winger?

If no Panarin stay the course. I’d like Hathaway for the bottom 6, other than that let’s see what we have in some of these kids. Re-sign Kreider.

Yes ...but what zkreider gonna accept? 5 years at 6 mill? I'd be fine with that, especially when staal, Hank, And Shatty be off books in 2 years. Cap increases will help as well to put NYR in position to spend some $$ in a year or so..,.. Obviously, that hinge's on Panarin not becoming a Blueshirt

One bonus of Panarin not signing is giving Gorton a year or so of moneuverabity if current players/ prospects don't pan out,....no pun intended

Id be willing to go with a higher AAV if Kreider would accept 5 years.

6.5? Max

Hayes is a center, and had a better season and is younger, AND got overpaid.

Not sure if Kreider nis worth more than 6, but current market seems to suggest otherwise

They give him a qualifying offer, which means, unless the salary would be so high, they don't have to move him. Plus, Vegas just moved Colin Miller to free up cap room.

I’d give him 7 million if he took 5 years. Enough young guys on the team the cap hit wouldn’t be an issue moving forward

They got him from Tampa as part of a package so that Vegas would take Garrison in the expansion draft

Gotcha. Don’t know enough about him to have an opinion other than he has good numbers in the KHL.

I get NYR can afford kreider at that price, but is he "worth" it?

Major upside, but don't see Las Vegas moving him.

He draws a lot of comparisons to Panarin since he’s been lighting up the KHL and came over in his mid 20s (he signed with Vegas during playoffs but didn’t play and will be 27 next week). If the ask isn’t crazy I’d definitely explore it but like Jan said now that they moved Miller they may be able to afford him

I still have a feeling Kreider is going to SJ, with Georgy. Just a hunch

Friedman's take:
The problem is Panarin’s known this kind of money was available from the Blue Jackets for at least a year. So, unless his position on staying changes in the last hours before 12 p.m. ET July 1, it’s unlikely. The expected outcome is Panarin and Semyon Varlamov to the Islanders (Panarin at seven years, between $11-12 million).

Two teams with room to spend are Buffalo and Columbus. I’ve heard Gustav Nyquist and the Blue Jackets; Marcus Johansson and both teams.

I’d also heard Nyquist with the Oilers, but it seemed less certain Sunday night. The Oilers are believed to be looking at Valtteri Filppula while Dallas is expected to sign Corey Perry.

Can someone explain to me about 11 Million Plus per year for Panarin when there are so many other better options for less money! First off Panarin is NOT worth 11 + Million per year and I hear he has been offered 12 Million, that is just nuts

Put an offer sheet out to Brayden Point for 9.5 Million for 7 years, Point is 5 years younger and has more points than Panarin! Tampa can't afford to match it and since they screwed us on the last two deals we made with them, paybacks are a female dog boys! This also takes care of the fact we do not have a number 2 Center.....

Another options is Lee or Dzingle and sign Kreider that's 11 to 12 Million over 6 years for the two of them and once again solves our number 2 Center problem.....

Another option any reason why we would let Matt Duchene sign with the Nashville for 8 Million? I think Matt is worth 9 Million + for 7 years! Now we have two number 1 Centers!!! Wouldn't that be nice for a change!!!

Gorton has done such an awesome job we have so much talent right now its not even funny!!! This year alone with what we have now is going to be pretty fun to watch. I do hope the Rangers bring back Bryan Boyle for a year! The guy is excellent at face offs as well.

Can’t, don’t have a 2nd next year. Has to be an offer that qualifies for 4 1sts.

Panarin has 320pts in 3222 career games so let's not make him out to be a bum or that he's far less of player then Point. I think 11.25 for any player is crazy and will most likely lead to lock out in a couple of yrs. Makes you wonder what Gretzky would make today.

Vegas is still currently OVER the cap. In addition to Gusev, they still need to sign a back-up goalie and they only have 5 defenseman on their roster.
They have to make other moves. Hopefully, one of those will be Gusev to Rangers.
