He should’ve had this contract 5 years ago. It’s an overpayment in money and term now but he deserves it. Just not from us.

I hope he stays too but I would be hesitant to give him a 7 year deal. It would kick in when he is 29 and last until he's 38. Those last years could be really tough with his bull in a china shop style of play. If they could get him to sign for a shorter term I'd be all over it but if I were him I wouldn't do that seeing what some of these UFAs are getting paid

I actually like this for NJ. He's off the cap next year and can come in and help out/protect guys like Hischier and Hughes. I guess nobody was offering him any term
