Good call I didn't realize that. His brother Tommy went to Harvard with Vesey. Just thought it was funny they brought him in the day they shipped Vesey out

Breakdown of Aho offer sheet: $11.3M SB plus 700k salary in Year 1; $9.87M SB plus 700k salary in Year 2; $6.95 SB plus 750k salary in Year 3; $5.25 SB plus $750k in each of Year 4 and Year 5

That's unbelievable Jan, as per offer sheets, which in this case has Aho's total salary being only a combined $3.6M through his 5 year term, but includes the remainder all in bonuses totaling $38.6M. Carolina has just 7 days from the time of the offer sheet to match it, which GM Dan Waddell must do, after stating a week or so ago in some key words, that "offer sheets are only made for the media".

Last week, John Shannon on @OilersNow said that "the Hurricanes are only willing to go to $6M per year on an 8 year deal" for Aho.

The Hurricanes owner in Tom Dundon is described as being "all about business". Many wonder if he will hold a grudge against Aho, or come to his senses to match Montreal's offer quickly, in adding another approximate $8.3M to it.

Can't hold a grudge against Aho. This is Carolina's fault for not getting him locked up earlier. If they thought nobody would offer sheet him for over $6M they were being naive

Yes. On the Isles blog from page 17 forward, with echiefs being both a Doctor and past his prime & aged, Lou Lamoriello for Isles members awaiting treatment for their frustration and jealousy of the Rangers signing Panarin.

Hearing from a few team sources that Kyle Connor got calls again today from other teams... but at this point not clear whether that will lead to anything or not.

I agree 100%, and feel that both Carolina's owner Tom Dundon and GM Dan Waddell will quickly and easily match Montreal's offer, which was likely made due both to losing out on Duchene to the Preds, and to the rising price just today of Isles free agent, Anders Lee. They had made deals recently to clear cap space, including in yesterday's trade of Andrew Shaw back to Chicago.

I don't think they'll do it quickly, I think they take the whole 7 days and halt the Habs from doing any other business

Another seven years without the Cup, Ugh. No free agent we have signed in the last 25 years has helped us, Panarin will be no better.

That's another good way to look at it, although they lost out on Duchene, in being among some of the top elite free agents that are already off the market.

So Gaborik didn't help? Also, aside from a couple of great seasons from him they turned him into Brassard ++ that turned into Zibanejad. Can't really be upset about that.

Some people enjoy being miserable. If they don't sign UFAs then the complaint is that they aren't going for it and are wasting the years of the kids we drafted. Can't please everyone

Gabby was def the best FA signing. Richards, drury, gomez, redden all on the decline. Panarin way more skill then any of those.

Gaborik is still one of my favorite players ever. Always wanted him here and when they signed him I freaked out.

Richards I wanted bad too but they got a declining Richards. He was good initially though.
