So when Gaborik signed his contract his cap hit was 7.5 or 13.2% of the cap at the time. Panarin comes in at 14.2%.

Gaborik is still one of my favorite players ever. Always wanted him here and when they signed him I freaked out.

Richards I wanted bad too but they got a declining Richards. He was good initially though.

Also the biggest difference, in 2 years the rest of the cap is basically clean this time around. Back in that Gaborik days, they were always up against the cap with no end in sight

Yeah, and he knows how to score more than 28 goals.

Another seven years without the Cup, Ugh. No free agent we have signed in the last 25 years has helped us, Panarin will be no better.
- Brukie

Where has their rebuild been slowed with the signing of Panarin???
They have not, nor will be dealing any of their elite or prized youth studs, unless overwhelmed with an offer involving another team's stud(s) that they cannot refuse.

If anything, they will use the buyout route on either Shatty or Smith if necessary to create additional cap space, should both they and Namestnikov's contracts be unable to move. The League has a second Summer buyout period as well for them to do just that.

The Panarin signing makes it 4 either current or potential elite players in Panarin, Trouba, Kakko, and Kravtsov that will be regularly in their lineup, who were not here, or just expected to be part of it only 3 months ago. I will take that any day for roster improvement rather than be another tomboy in fear, and wanting to only rebuild for the next 100 years. Who was the last Cup winner who won one in having no player older than 20 years old in their predominant regular lineup?

Nash was just bad luck.

That whole team just hit a wall. It's still too soon to talk about it.

Here's something to think about. Panarin won the Calder. You know who has two, maybe three, players who could win the Calder? Mentor

Rangers team president John Davidson called Artemi Panarin, "the perfect fit."

"I’m ecstatic about getting Panarin here to join this group. I think he falls right into our plan."

Ultimately, JD knows his personality, workout habits, leadership qualities, locker room prescence, etc. so I can't be upset that he signed the guy.

How is nobody talking about the fact that we signed Greg McKegg. A great hockey name if I’ve ever seen one

As of this moment, the Ducks, Kings, Hurricanes and Islanders are the only teams not to sign a player today.

Eklund has no idea what he's talking about

Hockey Buzz Eklund
@Eklund

This all makes a trade very possible...The two teams can talk trade over the next week, but if the Canes match then no trade can happen for a year...Habs just made it much more enticing for the Canes to move that contract..
