I'm not sure where Spezza fits in Toronto but it's basically no risk/ probably no rewards at this point.

Oh totally. It was good to get rid of Zaitsev's contract. The original comment was about if Ceci could turn himself around on his 1 yr contract with the Leafs and I was simply saying I doubt it. It's not a deal you love to see as a fan, but ridding yourself of Zaitsev's term is worth it. I think it will hurt the Leafs this year, though.

Maybe we'll see, the Marner signing or not will have the greatest impact. Looks like the price of d-men went down compared to forwards. Rangers and Buffalo have done well so far IMO.

What numbers do you guys expect for Wayne Simmonds? Always wanted to see that player on the Leafs, but more likely than not he will be too expensive.

Not sure, but I think I heard no team is willing to give him term. I think it was Friedman saying no one was offering more then 3 years which actually makes sense.

Yep to expensive for leafs if he was to hit his bonuses. Which he very well could have if he played with Matthews.

He is great on the PP.

It probably hurts this year but then 4 years of 4.5 million in space. I think Zaitsev could have been had for more but they reported Dubas wanted a Dman in return.

Can an extra year experience for Matthews Marner Nylander Johnson Kapanen overcome an even weaker defense.

I think they will have to fight for a wildcard.

Dreger has spoken 3 times on the TSN panel today. So far, all 3 times have been about Marner and offer sheet.

No risk, I agree. No reward - we'll see. Tied for best faceoff % in the NHL last year, about .86 points per game over his career, coming home, gave a home town discount to a team loaded with offense. Doubt there is no upside very much.

OTT should rename their team to the Leaf Castaways.
