You think?

He’d be stupid too, unless Dubas is ponying up $50m for a d with a bad back and doesn’t play well with any sort of pressure.

Spezza at league minimum would be a great addition for the Leafs.

Ottawa gave him a qualifying offer of $4.3 million.

He won't go to arbitration.

Play on Leafs for a year, become UFA, sign a stupid deal next year that his new team will instantly regret.

Expect it to be for the league minimum ($700K) or close to it.

I'm fine with this. It's good to have some vet centers around in case of injuries.

Last two seasons saw his minutes drop significantly, shooting percentage career lows too at 5 and 6 %. Could bounce back a bit.

Why do Leafs fans keep insisting this gives us ample cap room?

Zaitsev is $4.5 million. Ceci is at least $4.3 million.

Brown is $2.1 million, but you have to replace him, so the maximum savings is about $1.1 million.

Best case scenario: $1.3 million more in cap room.

They also got a couple warm bodies for defense
They also got out from under 4 years of Zaitsev, and they are going to need that cap space going forward.

It was not too bad Wedgie. The situation was tough.

Ceci we can walk away from if they let him go to arbitration and that's what he's awarded, which is likely, as he's making 4.3M now.

Worst case, this frees up cap space for the next 4 years after.

I like this deal: it's a creative move using our bonus-heavy contracts that equate to a lot less in real dollars; it's one of the only ways we can flex our financial might nowadays.

Ceci will sign his Qualifying offer. Leafs pay him or trade him, no other option.

I think they play him for a year.

Luchuk is an undrafted UFA. 100% a body for the marlies. Harpur is on a 1-way deal, but likely you waive him and send him down. He’s awful.....he’s big but plays like he’s the size of Ryan Ellis. Almost zero redeeming qualities.
- sensarmy_11

This is what I kept telling Spatso.

He goes to the Marlies, or he flounders on the leafs until Dermott returns.

The Leafs have had a ton of calls on Kadri the last 2-3 weeks, especially at the draft in Vancouver. I don’t get the sense they are shopping him, more listening to teams. Happy to keep him if nobody forced their hand with a trade they can’t refuse.

Toronto, in addition to trading Brown & Zaitsev, has been actively engaged in trade talks involving Kadri. Told the Leafs were very close to a move this past week or so, but the deal fell thru.

Right?

Kadri's been in anger management therapy so he can remain a Leaf.

Uhhhhh except for the above post where he is being traded.

If he sucks, he goes to the Marlies.

There is absolutely no risk in this.

Maybe, maybe not. He made that last year and the allure of being a UFA is pretty tempting: somebody desperate for a RHD will give him 5M x 3 or at least term.

Yeah, well Spatso is crazy. He also thinks Ceci is good, and melnyk has already sold the team. Lol
